Which Airline did you interview with? DAL
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? I listed the date I published as my availability. They had me change it to 2 weeks which was laughed off as eagerness..
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process?
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 3,000-4,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience 100% as advertised. The new chief is upfront and a good guy – made jokes about all the false gouge going around (water bottles, etc) – he wanted us to know what was going on as soon as he knew anything. Worst part about the day was the down time waiting for your turn.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? <60 days
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? ATP/CTP Program at Delta through Mil2ATP.com — I didn’t get my ATP until the rules changed, but Chris Kreske walked me through the whole process which he’s coordinated with Delta. I believe that partnership triggered an immediate app review as soon as I published.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? I stressed a lot about this, but all it took was a bottle of wine for my SARM office. They got a little brown folder and put in tabbed copies of my entire flight record. I added a simple summary cover page and my evaluations. They never even brought it up. They didn’t want the nice leather binder with individual page protectors, but they were fine with my simple papers bound in a folder.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? COG – Worried myself with this quite a bit too. Make an effort with the test trainer (using a mouse or ipad, not a mouse pad on a laptop) and you’ll be more than fine on the actual Cog. Math was simple too; incorporated the answers in my scan and was able to find the only answer that could possibly work without doing the exact math. Much easier than the practice stuff.
The JKT was the toughest part for me despite pretty honest effort at prep using the Ground School, videos, special topics, and EEPP. Couldn’t bring myself to read the ANA. I knew the concepts, but the multiple choice answers were not what I expected to have to choose between and I found it very difficult to pick in the end. I’d have been better off with a short answer/fill in the blank. But the RST Ground School was what got me across the finish line.
Technical Test Questions Some descent and lead radial and holding questions – SUPER straightforward – I was shockingly happy to get to the math.
SMGCS lights – question about what is true if the THLs and lead in lights are both illuminated with verbal clearance for takeoff
The ILS FAF definition…had 3 answers that all seemed to say the same thing to me.
Critical engine with a right crosswind.
The Comet’s structural failing
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Probable cause of Initial buffet during takeoff and excessive fuel burn at altitude.
Aft CG and heavier gross weight than planned or just aft CG or just heavier gross weight or something else
Cog Test
Cog Math Questions
HR Questions Very friendly, put me at ease – started with the standard TMAY since high school.
Wanted to know more about my degree and my choices of school and extracurricular activities. The volunteer work seemed to be interesting to them – likely one of the few unique things they see from candidate to candidate.
Clarifying questions about my duties and unique experiences in the military
Why Delta, My Leadership Style and I time I demonstrated it
FO shows up at the gate disheveled – not tired, not drunk, just mad that he got called off reserve during a round of golf
FA waiting for me and the FO at the gate – they’re in a hurry and on their cell phones when you start the crew brief. AFter you get their attention, what would your FA brief sound like? I told him that I didn’t know Delta’s company standard (cuz that’s how it would sound, of course), but I was forced to hazard a guess at what I would brief them. They pulled some info out of me that I would likely never include in a simple leg brief, but I seem to have gotten through.
The Guard thing came up too – they just clarified whether I was currently full or part time and how I would handle my commitments. I told them DAL is my priority…case closed. They seemed the eagerly accept that without any further consternation.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Talked it over with my wife and 2 close friends. It was more than enough. I knew I needed some stories and I knew about expanding the team etc etc from having come to the ATP/CTP at Delta.
Any additional information you would like to add. Pysch interview had a few TMAAT questions. This was not as easy as I expected. The shrink really didn’t give any indication whatsoever of whether i was crashing and burning or doing fine. We talked about booze, anger, daddy issues, etc….not super fun.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No – RST Rules!
What can we do to improve our services? nothing
Concepts not covered by RST none – it was just the test taking that was the problem (multiple choice horror)
