General Overview of Experience Day started @0800 email says to get there at 0745 I walked in at 0740 and was the 5th person there out of 8, so I would say anything around that time should be fine. We all met in the lobby and were greeted by the head of HR, systems CP, and other Captains who are all part of pilot selection. Went around the room and did quick intros along with our favorite overnight. After that, we were brought into a conference room to get a brief on how the company is doing, future plans, and how the day was going to pan out. We were then brought out to the lunch room to begin the process. There are 4 separate parts, to the interview that you are selected for in random order. I didn’t do anything for the first hour which was a slightly uneasy feeling, but I was able to stay focused and keep my head in the game. The SBI is tough, and it’s supposed to be, they partner you up with another candidate now instead of being by yourself. I did that first and thought I did horrible, but the debrief is crucial so make sure to take mental notes on things you did well, and not so well.
Everyone at Frontier was amazing, I had a fantastic experience and can’t wait to start. I cannot stress enough to be yourself, and talk to everyone. Out of 8 candidates that day 4 of us made it through. I briefly saw some of the guys on their cell phones, and heard one guy ask about what time the interview will be done so he can catch a commute home. I was floored by both of those situations and I separated myself from that immediately. Be outgoing, be excited, have a good attitude, and again be yourself they will see through your BS.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? <60 days
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I had a friend submit a silver bullet recommendation, and another friend in the marketing department send an internal.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No
Technical Test Questions Straight forward. Brief RNAV approach, was asked about a few symbology items, VDP explain/calculte, different meanings of the lines on the profile view, what does the “C” mean on circling min criteria…those were the big ones. The takeaway here is to brief the approach as if you are flying your airplane.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Nothing too crazy that the gouge didn’t cover
HR Questions HR panel was 3 v 1. This was probably my favorite portion of the interview. It was very conversational and laid back. Was asked about the lavs being broken for a 2 hour flight if I would accept the airplane, standard tell me about yourself, why Frontier, what I look for in a Captain, several TMAAT, WWYD questions and they also asked me about the flying internship I did after digging through my logbooks. Be very organized for this portion because they may ask to see some documents, and I also tabbed out everything in my logbooks, check rides, stage checks, etc.
Cog Test Straight forward, I didn’t study for this part and thought I did fine.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Fly the line with Lori Clark. I haven’t done a formal interview like this for almost 10 years so I wanted to adequately prepare and it was worth every penny. I probably would have bombed the HR if I didn’t learn how to think my way through the HR questions.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
