General Overview of Experience I really enjoyed the entire process. They were extremely happy to have you there, very welcoming. Started off with a pep talk, “why you should want to be here, seniority growth etc” from one of the pilots on the application board. Actual interview was with 2 pilots under the DC-3 in the museum. One was a prior military guy and the other a career airline pilot. The WWYD/TMAAT were absolutely what was to be expected, no real curve balls. It took about 45 minutes and you got the CJO about an hour later.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? <60 days
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? 3 recommendations from current American Airlines pilots.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 2 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No questions about log books. I have one that is a little water logged (it was stolen and then recovered in college). They were simply curious about that and thought it was a pretty funny story.
Technical Test Questions N/A
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? N/A
HR Questions 1. Tell me about a time you had an issue with a superior while flying? 2. When have you dealt with a stressful situation in the cockpit? 3. Flying into LA and you are told the runway is unsuitable to land, weather is just above mins at the diverts. (The head pilot in the interview took the time to draw out where all the diverts in LA are in relation to each other). He knew I didn’t have experience flying in that area and wanted to help as much as possible. They weren’t trying to trick you, just standard to see how you think through the problem.
Cog Test Use the RST prep and CUT-E and you’ll be fine. The applied mathematics one was a little tricky, so there needs to be some test prep added to the RST site for this. I don’t think this was especially hard, I just wasn’t expecting it. Have a good calculator handy and watch the time.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 3 months (I had been prepping for other airlines as well)
How did you prep? RST
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I would have like to have had a little more nugget’s up on the math portion. In the end it didn’t matter as I got the interview invite pretty quickly.
