How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? I did the ground school portion of RST coupled with all the tests and quizzes an looked up any info that I missed on the quizzes. I supplemented that with reading the ANA and studying the questions at the end of those chapters. For the COG I did a series of cog tests each night for about two weeks.
Technical Test Questions What rwy lighting shows you have 2000 ft of RWY remaining?
Leaving ground effect, what must a pilot do to maintain the same coefficient of lift?

You get your winds aloft and the winds at your destination from the ATIS, what are those two sets of winds given in, Magnetic or True?
What kind of energy does the compressor and stators deliver to the combuster?
In a no flap landing do you have higher or lower tail clearance?
What kind of performance do you expect at FL360 and -50 degrees C? answers were in relation to -50 c being warmer than standard so less performance.
Climbing at best endurance, what happens to IAS and TAS?
Climbing at constant angle of attack, what happens to IAS and TAS?
You depart on a flight at 1545Z from JFK Dec. 30th. You land in PDX (-7/-8). What time is it local in PDX?
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? You have a fuel control unit that fails. What are your indications tied to? When you look at the answers, each selection has 7 different things listed. Different variations of EGT, N1, Stator position, Cabin Pressurization, throttle position, N2, Master Caution.
I took about 10 seconds, guessed and moved on.
Cog Test Very straightforward and all the tests were from the 1st group of COG trainer tests. The reverse order numbers are much slower thus easier to remember. Also, you MUST REMEMBER YOUR SYMBOL codes. After you make your fake word with the 6 symbols, after each of the next couple of exercises you do, make sure you remember your code and repeat it to yourself before you launch into your next tests.
1 interesting note on the cog is make sure you know if you are in a testing or a practice phase. Some tests have practice, and some launch straight into the test. Other than this the COG was very straightforward and if you have practice you will have no problems. REMEMBER YOUR CODE!!!
Cog Math Questions Very simple questions. I got through maybe 5 questions. 3 were easy like the train leaves at 1200 and makes 3 15 minute stops, travels 3 hours en route. What time does it arrive? You have 5 quarters and 5 nickels how much money? The harder ones are actually the easiest if you look at the answers first. The first line of the question usually gives you the answer. For example, there are 4 more chickens than rabbits. And then goes on about legs etc etc.. but there is only one answer selection that has 4 more chickens than rabbits so there it is, forget everything else.
HR Questions -Tell us about yourself-typical intro question
-Tell us about this incident on your record (I had an engine failure in a small single)
-Out of everybody we have here, What makes you unique?
-What will be the biggest challenge your first year at Fedex?
-What do you know about our fleet and routes?
-Have you ever flown with someone unprofessional? How did you handle it? What does professionalism mean to you?
-WWYD scenario-FO shows up and first thing he says is he hasn’t had any sleep, he would be okay for the one leg we have tonight as long as he can be PM and kind of zone out. They walk you down the path of everything you do the guy won’t budge and won’t call in fatigued and is getting annoyed with you because you won’t drop it.
TMAAT you were in the cockpit and you insisted you were right and later found out you were wrong. How did you handle it? If you haven’t had that situation, when did you disagree with an FO and how did you handle that?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 30 days
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Do RST and you will be good to go.
Any additional information you would like to add. For the JKT, there is an overwhelming and daunting amount of information to cover. It will be IMPOSSIBLE to cover everything and be 100% on this thing. Understanding this will relieve some stress. If you genuinely do the ground school and practice tests and look up the info you don’t know and get a grip on the concepts, you will pass. Most of the stuff I read before I took this test scared me but when I think about, the questions you read on here are the ones that stick in peoples minds because those were the more challenging ones. There are a lot of Gimme questions on the thing too like what is AOA. What is EGT? What is specific range of the airplane etc. Do RST, get the concepts and you will succeed.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
