General Overview of Experience | I interviewed back in February before everything was shutting down.
Delta makes you feel at ease during the entire process. There is plenty of water and snacks for you for the entire day. You need to arrive no later than 0730 to begin the entire process. You will have to check in at the guard shack to get your visitors badge. Once you are done there, you will then head into the Human Resources Building. Around 0800 the team will collect all the paperwork requested from the interview. From there you will be allowed to relax in the pilot’s lounge area. at around 0830 we were called into the briefing room and interviewed by the head of Pilot Recruiting. This Captain is a line 767 Captain out of ATL, and doesn’t fly to often, but keeps current. Once his presentation is over, which takes about 15 minutes we go back to the pilot’s lounge. There is a list that divides your day and it is based on alphabetical order. I started the day in the computer testing area. You can take a bottle of water with you, just keep the cap screwed on when not drinking. The testing area had about 10 computers in there, and you were assigned a particular seat. The instructions on all the tests are straight forward, just take your time to ready them. We started the testing around 0900. You can take breaks between the tests. Once you are done with each test, you must report to the test proctor. For the cog test, you can have practice attempts. You may have up to 2 practices without the computer locking up. If you want an additional practice, you can get the test proctor. Please keep in mind that once 12:00 hits, all testing has to be done, so do not practice all the time. I didn’t realize that I was taking the real one because of how well the system flows through. I took a break after each test. If you finish early, you are on lunch until 1:00 when it is time to report back. The candidates then switch from HR / Testing. As these are done alphabetically, I didn’t have to interview until 2:30 p.m. During my HR interview, I had 2 HR representatives (1 “Training” and 1 Interviewing”) 1 Simulator Instructor and 1 Check Airman from DTW. All of them were nice individuals for the most part. Towards the end of the interview through, I was starting to get Good Cop / Bad Cop vibes from 3 of the 4 in the room. The Trainee HR Representative questioned my integrity on my work with a volunteer organization. After the HR portion, they asked me to fill out 2 additional forms so it could be added to my application packet. It didn’t matter because as soon as I turned them in, I got escorted to the briefing room and was told “thanks but no thanks.” It is a blessing in disguise now! Out of the 16 of us that interviewed only 12 were asked to come back for day 2. |
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? | 12 months + |
Did you attend a job fair? | No |
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? | I made a correction to the app over a year ago. I didn’t work my first 2 years at ISU, and I had to fix that. This left a gap in my job history. I put down that I was a student as my job. |
How many internal recs did you have? | 1-2 |
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? | 7 weeks |
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? | No issues with my logbooks, but I forgot to add my High School GPA on the application. I went and changed that, and I hope when this epidemic is all over, that I will be called again for an interview. |
Technical Test Questions | All the technical questions were from studying Mental Math for Pilots book, and using RST. When you use the RST site, the flow in the aerodynamics session doesn’t match up with the study questions at the end. For example on Day 1 you read a specific chapter in the Naval Aviators Book, then take some practice questions. Those practice questions do not go over anything you read for Day 1. You need to supplement your reading with the Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical knowledge. However it is not mentioned you read this book until about Day 10 of the program. In my opinion, RST is very helpful, but it is very hard to follow through. You will get down on yourself while training. |
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? | I had 1 question that was asked about an instrument approach going into LAX. It was stating that you must abandon the approach at a certain point. What is your missed approach procedure. Be sure to read all the answers as 3 of them had the missed approach procedures listed, but not in the correct order. |
HR Questions | So different TMAAT, and WWYD questions. They say if you can provide your own example to the question please do so. However do not try to make something fit. I know I did this for 1 question. |
Cog Test | |
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? | 2 months |
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? | Emerald Coast |
Any additional information you would like to add. | So I would add a company called Checked and Set to the mix. I had some issues with my application that I didn’t notice. So be sure to add that feature. |
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? |
