Which Airline did you interview with? Delta
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 7 weeks invite to interview. Immediate availability.
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 3,000-4,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience I can echo what most have said… Delta was highly welcoming and helpful in any way possible. You really get the feeling they want to hire you. The process is intimidating, but not the people. Success is completely up to you.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? <60 days
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Attended CTP at Delta HQ.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? Got a fixit email for high school data. Did nothing fancy with my logbooks… one-each standard civilian logbook with my whopping 55 hours for private and ATP, plus my green monster from the HARM.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST, RST, RST! Light to moderate studying loosely using 15-day checklist for 3ish months. 2 weeks of full-time intense studying prior to interview. Final week I used gouge/quizzes to find fault lines in my knowledge, then I dug into that concept until I felt confident with it. Ran RST COG through twice and watched Tito’s webinar. Result was I was highly confident on approximately 3/4 of the JKT and had to make educated guesses on the others. Some of that was mental fatigue after 3 hours of testing. I feel like I aced the COG due to RST prep.
Technical Test Questions Don’t remember many at this point, but RST had me prepared.
Holding airspeed at 6000.
-IMT+
I did not get a lat/long question or holding questions, but several interviewees did.
Lots of similar questions to RST quizzes.
FWIW, one of my questions was #3030… it seems that rumors of the test bank size are true.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? No specific questions, but as I previously mentioned, I think the mental fatigue is something to plan for. You really have to know concepts cold because the analytical energy is hitting bingo by the end of testing.
Cog Test No prep required outside of RST. Develop and practice your techniques, then roll in with confidence. Use caution with the stylus. Some interviewees kept it too close to the screen and unintentionally touched answers.
Cog Math Questions Don’t remember many specifics, but highly recommend practicing basic word problems that require some mental agility. I brain-locked on one and timed out.
A phone call costs 10 cents a minute before 0800 and 15 cents a minute after 0800. John makes a 30 minute call starting at 0745. What does the call cost?
HR Questions 5-minute intro. Lots of rumors on this part about Delta not wanting to hear about family. Ultimately I got asked for the full intro, so that’s what they got.
Some clarification questions on my app, but nothing that was intended to be stump-the-dummy. Very conversational in this portion and I had to remind myself to tie in cogent points for which I had prepped.
FO won’t wear his hat.
Captain won’t fly flight profile because she wants to gain more hours.
Prior to closing door, passenger says they saw FA serve you a GnT.
You’ve got lots of leadership on your resumé; how are you going to handle being an FO?
What do you bring to Delta? (I practiced this one quite a bit, but felt like I whiffed on it. Most interviewees felt they had a moment like that in the interview.)
I had a couple of points that I liked from practice with Emerald Coast practice questions that I wrapped back into other questions. So, if you have some attention-grabbers and don’t feel like they are going to ask you the feeder question, be ready to work it into other answers.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 6 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast. I did all of the academics, attended 2x webinars, a seminar, and phone top off. I definitely needed the work and it paid off large.
Any additional information you would like to add. Do whatever it takes to go in to this day knowing you have mastered everything RST and your interview coaching company teach. You could smell the regret hanging heavy in the room for a few folks who had not prepared to the level they should, and, sure ’nuff, they were not around at the end of the day. Psych testing: I clicked through quickly and honestly. It’s ok to be human. I was open kimono in the psych interview. Done at 1030 Day 2.
Lastly, several folks have talked about the end of Day 1 and how folks get cut. The thing that caught me off guard was how soon this process started. The first guy got called back around 1400 and we never saw him again. This went on for almost 3 hours.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Nope.
