General Overview of Experience AA has a very laid back feel–most of the staff in the Flight Academy building are happy to see pilots coming in the door again.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Several job fairs and resumes walked into three CPOs I feel had to have had some impact on my getting an interview.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? There is really no way to prepare for the Cog portion on day one–I did get an idea ahead of time what the modules were about but as far as practice, nothing you can really do. The cog is challenging but I don’t think it really affects the outcome of the interview. We were all frustrated at the difficulty of some of the modules but there was a feeling that we’d all be ok.
Technical Test Questions none
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? none
Cog Test Cog testing on day one is 3.5 hours total with a timed 10 minute break in the middle. You sit at a work station with a large screen, keyboard, mouse, and a large control pad with an array of joysticks, colored buttons and bars on it. At your feet are a set of rudder pedals. Most of the modules involve the mouse or a single button on the control pad. The modules test reaction time, attention span, math and puzzle solving skills. It’s a marathon but not a big deal.
Cog Math Questions
HR Questions Interview was a great experience. You hang out in the CR Smith museum next to the DC-3 and chat with a line pilot. A pair of pilots comes to get you–one senior captain, one junior FO for me–and you’re seated in the open at a table on the other side of the DC-3. They introduce themselves and talk a bit about the process. I was asked several TMAAT questions and then given several scenario-based questions. The TMAATs were pretty straight forward–the pilots responded to my answers and it was pretty conversational. For the scenarios, you’re given the question on a card and provided a piece of paper you can make notes on. Then you just talk through your thought process and come to a conclusion. Very relaxed. After that part you hang out in the museum until an HR person grabs you and you sit for ten minutes and talk about failed checkrides, availability dates, etc. Overall a great experience.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC, definitely helped.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
