Which Airline did you interview with? Delta
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability?
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? NA
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 1,000-2,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience All was as you’ve read before. All the stress was self-imposed. I thought the HR portion was the least stressful and that the testing was pretty rough.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? <60 days
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal recs from guys I’d flown a lot w in the USAF
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None at all. We didn’t even talk about it. Both the retired CA and the line CA that interviewed me were retired USAF guys and they seemed to know the drill for military records
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST only.
Technical Test Questions What voltage and amperage does a typical aircraft system run?
Look at this approach plate, you’re on the 50 degree radial arcing South. Which way do you turn for procedure turn. It was NoPT on the arc.
Look at this ground chart. What is is saying about Rwy 31L at JFK (not sure what the right answer was)
Something about the 4 things a generator control unit does. I guessed the answer with overspeed protection in it.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? I had the test with very little Aero or Engines, and a lot of instrument, Jepp charts, and heavy-only systems questions so I didn’t feel super prepared. I knew 15-20, got 20 down to 2 answers and guessed, and totally guessed on 20. I can’t say what I’d do differently since I completed the 15 day checklist and the flashcards, but the RST prep/concepts must have been enough to help me make educated guesses.
Cog Test Very similar to, and easier than RST, but don’t underestimate your nerves on interview day. I was GtG with high 600s/high 80% so the 700/90% guidance is good I think.
Cog Math Questions Much easier than RST. I had 4-5. They were good because they were easier and I knew when I got those right.
HR Questions For USAF guys, they do want to know about UPT check ride busts on the Addendum, but they didn’t seem to care about them at all. They just want it noted for the record. The CA’s just asked me what I learned from those experiences, and the HR guy wanted to make sure it was annotated on the application. Everyone was really nice I felt like. The HR portion, to me, was the easiest and least stressful part of the day.
Tell me about yourself from college until now
How will you handle the commute? I still fly in the Guard and I think this their way of legally asking, “are you going to get hired and drop mil leave on us?” ECIC prepped me well for this. I told them my plan for managing commuting and for being a part-time Guard guy without taking mil leave unless forced to do so.
Tell me about your leadership style, and a time it worked and didn’t work
Tell me about a time you couldn’t give a customer what they needed. How did you handle that?
You’re flying with a female CA and you don’t think you will clear the line of T-storms ahead. She says we will and doesn’t want to deviate. Go… Ultimately she didn’t budge and I said I’ll be the best FO I can be for her and I would tell the FA’s to sit everyone down and I’d make a PA saying we expect turbulence
You get off the crew bus, pass a guy you know but not well, and smell alcohol. By the time you turn around, the bus has driven away. Go… I got the guy’s cell number, called, met him in the terminal, tried to talk him into not signing in, he wouldn’t budge after a few attempts so ultimately for the protection of the customers and the company, I called Ops and told them not to let him fly.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 1 week
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. It did. I just did webinar and the phone top off, which were both really good. Definitely get the phone top off.
Any additional information you would like to add. None.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Know more in depth about heavy aircraft systems, especially electrics, fuels, and bleed air/pressurization
What can we do to improve our services? Keep up with the changing JKT test. I did the entire 15 day checklist and felt like the JKT was not at all what I’d studied.
Concepts not covered by RST I’d like to see a “Heavy aircraft systems and approach types for fighter guys” section. I felt woefully underprepared for the JKT despite doing the 15 day checklist and all the flashcards, etc, and part of that was not having any experience outside of a USAF fighter.
