Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A

Total Turbine PIC Time
TPIC 121 hours 0
TPIC Military hours >2000
TPIC 91/135 1-500
General Overview of Experience As briefed in previous trip reports.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal review from attending the Delta ATP-CTP. Of note, I was inside the expected 60-90 day from availability window and therefore contacted the CTP team to ask for a check-up (they had submitted the initial review 7 months before I was available…to early). They promptly checked with the hiring team and I received an email within minutes. Lesson learned for military was that you should save your internal review until you’re about 90 days out, then “pull the trigger”. I don’t want to say that I was lost in the shuffle, but I think I was. The CTP folks saved the day. That said, I still interviewed one week after I listed myself as available. With the summer training slowdown, I expect to be unemployed for a while (5 months).
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 7 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? I have a pending medical Special Issuance for Sleep Apnea that brought up a question from the HR panel. I had a sleep study a few months back and was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea and prescribed a CPAP. I started treatment (and subsequently was off military flight status for almost two months), but then returned to fly. I went to the AME and submitted the treatment compliance paperwork as required and she issued me a Class 1, not with a Special Issuance (FAA central does that), but with a 1-year “expiration” in the limitations section (without explanation). I was told the FAA is taking 4-6 weeks to review and issue such SIs. I’m currently at 30 days post-exam and still waiting. The FAA allows a 90-day window. I explained all that honestly and they accepted my answer. So, if you’re a military guy like me that waits until the end to admit to all the aches and pains, do those 1 year out, not 6 months!
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST with ANA and EEPP mixed in as much as possible.
Technical Test Questions 1. I confused Instrument RWY centerline lighting patterns with edge lighting (each change at the end of the runway)
2. Aero: CG vs CP and how it affects stall speed, cruise speed, flight control response.
3. Top of Descent or TOD for optimum fuel burn in the descent. The questions gave me a cruise alt, descend to alt, and speed. It indicated that TOD = 3 x ALT + 15 for my aircraft. It didn’t indicate if the “ALT” was altitude to lose or actual altitude. I hadn’t seen the term “TOD” in RST so I was second guessing my solution. One solution was the standard “altitude to lose” but I wondered if TOD was a more efficient (less than 3 deg.) procedure that airlines use. I calculated both options and both were in the multiple choice options. After asking my commercial buddies, the indicated the FMS calculates TOD as altitude to lose, which I guessed incorrectly. Correct me if wrong, but TOD should simply be the time to slow down + 60-1 rule on altitude to lose.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? See above. Many questions seemed to have two correct answers.
Cog Test I only had one run through the more accurate RST COG test prep before it was pulled down. The substitute ones are good, though not exact. I forgot to keep the symbol/number pattern going in my head, so I ended up second guessing myself when it came up again. The hardest is the left/right with the same/different component. I would recommend you practice doing a left/right 1-2 Hz pattern with your non-dominant index and middle finger on a keyboard to practice. I almost cramped up!
Cog Math Questions 1. Your telephone rate is 10 cents/minute until 0800, then 7 cents/minute after. You make a phone call from 7:45 until 8:15. How much did it cost? A simple question, but with not knowing how much time I had, my finger counting was a flail.
HR Questions Very welcoming. Tell us about yourself in 5 minutes. Major you picked? Why two Master’s degrees? At some mid-point, they very deliberately transition to their “canned questions” which Sarah (HR) indicated were set ahead of time. 1) Female CA flying 10-15 slow each leg and arriving late. Claiming it saves gas (which you note that it doesn’t) and getting her some extra time/money each month. I addressed this on the “bro” level but didn’t take it further. I concluded by telling her that I would be talking to Pro Stds. 2) FA says Premier passengers are drunk, Gate agent knows them and says they’re fine. I stuck with the FA but indicated I would have a conversation with the FA and Gate Agent. They threw a curveball and had the FA back off a bit – “They’re just being rowdy and loud”. I attempted to confirm her concern about their intoxication state (per FAR) and then asked the gate agent (who knows them) to ask them to “simmer down” (not my exact words). I joked about how drunk people are often very willing to comply with respectful requests (though not always), such as “Can you tone it down…we have kids here” which usually translates to the lead drunk loudly shushing his group, trying to be compliant. I also joked about this being the standard crowd going to Las Vegas on a Friday. I ultimately left the option open of keeping them on the flight if they were compliant, but deferred to my lead FA for his/her final call.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 1 year, spaced out
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. Much has changed since Aaron Hagan made the audio/video files, but the changes are covered well in the seminar/webinars and top-off. Well worth the money.
Any additional information you would like to add. I highly recommend you have your application reviewed before submission. I used (and recommend) CheckedandSet. My reviewer found a large amount of information that I was neglecting to include.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Had a prescription Valium to calm the nerves! Just kidding, but in all honesty, I’m a very calm person and Day 1 was one of the most stressful days in my life just because of the unknown. Near the end of the day, Capt Holmes began calling out individual names at random, pulling them aside and informing them that they weren’t selected. We felt like a heard of animals being picked off by a sniper. When there were 5 of the 8 left, we stood around nervously for another 30 minutes until he came out to congratulate us.
