Which Airline did you interview with? FedEx
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 3 months after available date; 5 weeks from invite to selected interview date
Did you include volunteer work in your application? Yes
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 1,000-2,000
Total Turbine PIC Time
TPIC 121 hours 0
TPIC Military hours 1000-2000
TPIC 91/135 0
General Overview of Experience As previously described/expected, though that didn’t relieve the anxiety of the testing day nor the SBI. The panel interview was actually pleasant, and that seemed constant for all of the interviewees.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I did have a FedEx PE, though there is current discussion on whether that helps or hinders at this time. PE was on file prior to availability, still waited 3 months after available to receive invite. Of note, this is the only invite I received despite having internal recs at other airlines. (Not that I *should* have received invites, just for data.)
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. Of note, I had a very low total time and only had the required TPIC requirement after they applied the .2 multiplier. (I did not include that multiplier on any documents, including resume nor logbook.)
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST for the knowledge test, along with reading up on Everything Explained for the Professional Pilot. Of note, all of the recommendations for studying the RST data were accurate – but concepts are more important than specific study questions. The entire interview group of 12 felt we all failed the test miserably, but all were called back for the second day.
Technical Test Questions NDA was signed, so nothing specific here. Everyone seemed to have a different set of randomly generated questions so everyone’s “theme” was slightly different. I had loads of aerodynamic focus questions, but it was still a broad reach of questions. Again, it’s more the concepts than the specifics with RST info, but you shouldn’t assume they are teaching the test anyway. For example: CG discussions popped up within questions but it was more comprehensive than just “aft CG is more or less stable?” Know effect on stability, efficiency, and stall speed, e.g.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? See above. Questions just seemed much more detailed on concepts than I thought I was “smart” on. That being said, the program and info is enough to knock off the cobwebs and remember the aero basics.
Cog Test Cog study was disabled for the last 4 of the 5 weeks I had to study. Luckily, my computer cached one version of the practice test and I used it over and over again – it was enough to have seen some of the examples. That being said, even without studying, if you will take your time and read the instructions and practice, it’s a fairly simple test. Far an away the easiest part of the interview.
Cog Math Questions Basic level, and I hate math. Easy – or I missed them all but there were so few they didn’t hold enough weight to trip me up.
HR Questions HR was a non-issue. Very welcoming, open and much more conversational than I had “prepped.” However, just because I didn’t use all of the snowballs I had packed for the fight, it was excellent prep work. Nothing really caught me off guard, nor did they seem to try.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? Steadily for the 5 weeks prior to the interview, but most of my effort was on the JKT. Phone topoff 3 days prior with emerald coast.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast, and yes. That’s one you can’t sign up for too early, and I did it about a year out so that I could leisurely listen through all of the audio/video multiple times. You could also take a week off from work and distractions and cram session the entire thing.
Bottom line – I would absolutely recommend it.
Any additional information you would like to add. Do an app review, pay for the service. I used “the usual” with the slight discount through emerald coast and found a massive amount of errors and conceptually wrong things. (Yes, this was after the bro-level review from friends already at the airline. Do it.)
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Nothing that would be possible to know prior to interview.
