General Overview of Experience Awesome. The most relaxed and professional interview I’ve ever had. HR was straight up pilots talking to pilots. Even the HR Rep’s questions was like talking to a buddy.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal Rec
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? Minor stuff. Just changed and initialed.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST.
Technical Test Questions Nothing of note. Some of the questions seemed to have multiple correct answers.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Textual description of an ADF and how it moves. If it was a picture of the instrument, it wouldn’t be a problem.
Cog Test If RST’s ever comes back up, practice it a few times. Delta’s is much much easier.
Cog Math Questions Easier than RSTs. I suggest reading the last sentence of the question first and then reading from the beginning so you know what to grab out of the fluff.
HR Questions 3 minute intro. They didn’t time it.
Why did you choose your school?
Why didn’t you complete your masters degree?
How did (part time job from 15 years ago) help you in your flying career?
Your paperwork was very organized. Did your job as (another part time job) help you with attention to detail?
You have a ton of instructor time and have taken the controls in an airplane several times I’m sure. When would you take them away from a Captain?
You’re the CA. Aft lavs are broken and there’s only 1 of the 3 left working. It’s going to be a 30 minute delay to fix them. WWYD?
You’re the CA. FAs aren’t paying attention to the brief. FA1 flipping through phone. FA2 is continually glancing back at the cabin. WWYD?
You’re the CA. DFW to MSP and get a credible bomb threat over Iowa. WWYD?
You’re the FO. Female CA refuses to use checklist because she has her own technique. She’s getting annoyed that you’re slowing her down. You’re brand new in the jet and uncomfortable. WWYD? (Remember to use female pronouns)
Not a single TMATT. Bummer too, I have a few cool ones locked and loaded.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? Two weeks.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Judy Tarver (FAPA.aero)
Any additional information you would like to add. Be yourself. If you think of something appropriate and funny, make a joke. Take off the coat, drink water, a guy with a blue tie got hired. There is no solution to the WWYD questions. Take 5 seconds of silence and pick the best option you have and just address the CONS list of your choice. Unless something crazy happens, stick to your answers. Confidence and a calm demeanor are key.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Purchased more comfortable shoes.
