Which Airline did you interview with? Delta and United
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? Delta: 3mo from invite to interview, United: 5 weeks invite to interview
Did you include volunteer work in your application? No
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? I received CJOs from UAL and DAL
What is your experience? Military, 121
Total Flight Time 2,000-3,000
Total Turbine PIC Time
TPIC 121 hours 1-500
TPIC Military hours 1000-2000
TPIC 91/135 0
General Overview of Experience Both interviews experiences were good, staff was pleasant. RST’s questions were a good warmup for the Delta JKT and Cognitive tests. Not useful for the UAL interview.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 6-12 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal recommendation email for Delta. Unknown for UAL, but I was updating my app/hours weekly and building 121 time (had roughly 200 hours when UAL invite received)
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? no
Technical Test Questions Many of the RST practice questions are poorly worded and use awkward numbers. The DAL JKT’s questions were worded more clearly and used numbers that were conducive to ‘mental math’ (especially 60:1 rule questions).
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? RST’s question bank was overall slightly more challenging than the DAL JKT, so if you can practice there the JKT isn’t too difficult.
HR Questions standard TMAAT questions, DAL surprised me with ‘What did you do to prepare for this interview?’ and followed up with ‘what companies or services did you use?’
Cog Test The RST cog trainer’s multi-taking test uses a balance beam with a ball that realistically simulates real life (the ball accelerates down the ramp when the ramp is allowed to tilt). THe DAL cog test has an arrow on a slider and behaves differently: the arrow moves on the bar as a function of a delayed input by by the L-R keys. When you press the key, there’s a delay so you press it again/again…the carrot icon now has a double or triple input in the reverse direction and when it reverses direction is really takes off and you have to correct aggressively back the other way. The solution is to recognize that it’s a lagging input and the carrot icon won’t accelerate on it’s own as it gets farther from the center position. The technique that worked well for me was to tap the L-R arrow keys alternately on a steady 1 sec tempo to keep the arrow near the center and to delay an input if needed to recenter. Avoid double or triple inputs in the same direction–be patient.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 6mo+, using ECIC (3 webinars, 2 in-person seminars, and UAL Tech Prep webinar)
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast (highly recommended)
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
