Which Airline did you interview with? Delta Air Lines
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability?
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process?
What is your experience? 121 only
Total Flight Time 4,000-5,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience Day One is a full day with the most intense part, in my opinion, being at the end of the day when everyone is waiting to hear the CJO results. AK called names out first that were being offered CJO’s and the interviewees left behind unfortunately had alternative paths. We were not told this in advance and my name was called first so I thought I was possibly finished and out of luck. However once several other names were called, it became clear that I was in the CJO group. I wish everyone would have made it through. Day two is less intense but is of course still the interview all the way home. The day 2 successful emails went out around 3 pm and as far as I know all of us that interviewed on day 2 received the day 2 successful emails. Overall, it was all a very rewarding experience.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? No. Possibly an internal recommendation from the past but nothing out of the ordinary.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No, except just make sure to have multiple PRIA 11A forms if you have previously worked at more than one airline.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? For JKT- I read though the T-34 study guide and EEPP. Also, on the RST Delta FB page under files I referenced many great gouges. The FedEx study guides and the Gold Standard file were very useful. Otherwise, the RST practice tests and study guideshows were fantastic resources as well. For the COG portion, I studied the practice modes on and off several times per week but not every day.
Technical Test Questions Half or more of the questions were very straight forward. Another portion of the questions- two out of the four answer choices were easy to narrow down to a couple choices. The rest I guessed on. The wording on some answer choices were a bit hard to interpret. Overall, RST helped made this test quite doable.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? The question about landing/takeoff with LAHSO lights on without LAHSO clearance but other planes were assigned LAHSO that landed before you…
Cog Test I practiced all levels on and off several times before the interview. Practice a lot, and the COG portion should be non event. I never took a full test mode, but it still worked out fine. There are some subtle differences but that’s where taking a practice test before each actual test will pay off. I’d plan on being asked the ULT-XO type code one or two other times later on in the COG testing. The touch screen with stylus pen I found was easier than using a mouse, too.
Cog Math Questions If anything I would study the percentage style math problems. I have no idea if I got any math problems right and still made it through.
HR Questions I would be very positive in all aspects and not give canned answers. I had a great panel. Very through HR interview wise, but it was just as advertised in the morning brief with AK. The other ride reports are very useful. At the end I gave my thank you but asked if I could give a brief outro before finishing and they said yes. I gave a 30 ish second outro and that was it.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2-3 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC, it definitely helped. Also, try to speak to other Delta pilots. They are great resources as well.
Any additional information you would like to add. They want to hire everyone in your interview group. It’s not a competition between you vs them. Use the one little water bottle on day one and just refill it. I was too positive on my MMPI test and took it a second time being more realistic/not positive about society and myself. The psychologist meeting was very straightforward and down to earth. The RST podcasts from Tito are a fantastic resouce. Eat well and try to sleep well will also help the interview process.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No.
