Which Airline did you interview with? Delta
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 6 weeks
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 3,000-4,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience Air Force C-130s and King Air contractor
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I asked the panel what they thought prompted my invite and they speculated it was my talk with the Delta pilot at WAI.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No issues. I brought my AF Big green folder, my original private pilot’s logbook and the printed spreadsheet for each month of flying as a contractor…main point being, there doesn’t appear to make it complicated or fancy.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST. I read the highlighted portion of ANA and all of the RST lessons. Did the practice tests and flash cards as a final review. Practiced the COG until,I felt mostly confident with each one.
Technical Test Questions Nothing stands out; there were probably 15/60 that I could narrow the answer down to the most likely of two…the test bank is huge, just study as much as you can and realize that unless you’re having a bad day, you will most likely pass like everyone else.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Don’t remember
Cog Test As advertised in RST
Cog Math Questions All very simple and straight forward.
HR Questions Tell me about yourself since HS in 3 minutes. Asked about some of my specific language training…some other general questions. Your Captain is going through a bad divorce and missing quite a bit etc. You’re notified upon arrival at the gate that the aircraft won’t be serviced for 40 minutes.
I don’t think your specific answers are as important as conveying to the two pilots and HR person that you’re competent. I actually met my HR person a few hours before right as I walked out of my testing. I had a nice conversation with her….every interaction is an opportunity to not be a jerk!
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4-6 weeks of reading ride reports etc. but going to career fairs and getting comfortable telling my story took longer.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? I didn’t do HR prep but did use a resume service (Charlie Venema from Checkedandset.com). I’m pretty sure I would have answered the specific questions better, but I have no doubt that being myself helped me overall.
Any additional information you would like to add. Stayed at Drury Inn; free breakfast was nice.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No
