Which Airline did you interview with? FedEx
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? Application in less than 2 months; then 2 weeks from invite interview
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 4,000-5,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience Retired Military – T-37 IP, C-5, and 757 pilot. Safety Officer in Air Force. After AF retirement flew Be-350s for L3 Technologies. Safety Officer for L3T as well.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? <60 days
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Not sure – After publishing my application, I did update it frequently.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 2 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No. I had my Air Force flight hour summaries printed out on 2 sheets. I had an excel spreadsheet with my King Air time and a 3 page summary on excel of all my times.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? JKT – I used the RST Ground School Tab. I did all the lessons in the ground school and then took the exams at the end of the courses. I also went to the summaries pages and reviewed the areas after I had completed the ground school courses. I also used the Math Trainer and Other tests on the website. They were spot on and gave me a great understanding of what to expect on the test at my interview.
Technical Test Questions My test had a lot of engine questions. There was a holding entry question, a couple of aero questions and some 60:1 math problems (calculating descents, VDP)
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? There was a question which stated EPR is normal but N1 is 80% of normal indication…..what do you do? Answers were not well written, and somewhat confusing. I chose the only answer that had abort the takeoff as an option.
Cog Test Just like the COG trainer on RST!!! If you know the rules for the RST cog test, the same tests were on the FedEx COG test. There were 13 levels on the COG test at FedEx. One thing which is different than RST is you use a stylus on the FedEx test vs clicking the mouse. So felt a little different
Cog Math Questions Don’t remember….. I do remember thinking they were very hard and I am not sure if I got any of them right – I guessed on most of them as I was worried about time.
HR Questions TMAT when you did not like or agree with a decision implemented by your employer.
Spent quite a bit of time discussing fatigue vs being tired and some examples from my Air Force time flying AMC missions which involved long days. I was asked one thing I could improve on professionally. They also asked why I wanted to work at FedEx and what would I do if they told me no after the interview.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast Interview Consultants (ECIC). They were a tremendous help. A couple of my counselors currently or flying the line at FedEx….They knew the types of questions I was going to be asked and for the SBI portion, they were spot on!
Any additional information you would like to add. I was told by my friends at FedEx to sign up for RST and use ECIC. I did that. I don’t know if I would have been prepared at all to go through this process without using the services of RST and ECIC. If you study and follow the RST ground school and use the test banks as well as the COG trainer you are setting yourself up for success. If not, you will go into the interview less prepared, rolling the dice, and hoping for the best. There was too much riding on the outcome and RST prepared me extremely well for the JKT and COG portions of the interview at FedEx
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No
