General Overview of Experience Just over 8,000 t/t, Just Over 1000 121 PIC.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 6-12 months
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Job Fair, without a question is a key component to get the call for the Hogan invite in my case. I went to OBAP in MCO only to see UPS, I registered late and got a high seniority number (900’s) waited all day for my 15 minutes and it was worth it. about 2 weeks after the job fair I got the call to confirm my application information and was provided access to the hogan test. After the Hogan I received a call 24-48 hours later to schedule the interview.
UPS formal rec process; it took me only one rec to get the invite, however my advice is to get as many as you can.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? N/A
Technical Test Questions N/A
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? N/A
Cog Test N/A
Cog Math Questions You will do a fuel burn calculation in the sim. While you hand fly with raw data (strait and level in my case), they ask you to do “simple” math problem in your head.
HR Questions As briefed, no surprises. They stress being careful with canned answers, they want to get to know you, and they go above and beyond at trying to get you to relax. It seems to me that Human factors knowledge and CRM skills are what they want you to have.
After the interview I was even more excited about working at UPS. It seems to me that this is a true family culture. They ask questions that your family would ask you, Are you financially ready for first year pay? How do you plan to get to work? Do you understand our schedule (night flying)? How do you deal with fatigue? They have compassion about taking you away from your loved ones for training, and want you to know that it will be hard for you to see them when you are in initial.
Let everyone you know who works at UPS know your going to interview (everyone), they ask who you know, and they write down the names you say on your resume.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? Less than a month. Life and poor planning left me with very little time to prep (recommendations saved the day).
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Adam Hughes. Yes it was helpful. I would rather do a PC than talk about myself. Learning how to market yourself makes the interviewers job(s) easier. having a third impartial party to bounce ideas off of was very helpful and gave me the ability see things how the interviewers see them. Its not about learning canned politically correct answers to all the standard questions. In my case it was about helping me articulate my life experiences into a understandable conversation that assisted the interviewers in doing their jobs.
Any additional information you would like to add. Read Big Brown. The UPS website is also a great tool.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? More recommendations. 1 rec will get you an invite, more is better. I realize that sounds obvious, however, I personally have a hard time asking people to do me favors. In hindsight I feel like the more you have the better. If the pool is based on points, then get as many recs as possible. They also ask you who you know. Let all your friends know your going to the interview before you go (I know, duh).
