Which Airline did you interview with? Delta
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 6 weeks, felt like 4 due to family obligations. 2 weeks availability.
Did you include volunteer work in your application? Yes
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military, 135
Total Flight Time 4,000-5,000
Total Turbine PIC Time
TPIC 121 hours 0
TPIC Military hours 1000-2000
TPIC 91/135 500-1000
General Overview of Experience Everyone is friendly and professional. The panel (4 in my case since there was an extra HR person in training) was polite, and greeted me in a friendly manner.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Possibly an additional internal recommendation, or a correction to my educational history in my application. But honestly I’m not sure.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No. I did have one military check ride Form8 that was not signed but they did not bring it up. They didn’t seem to have any questions with my logbook, though I spent a loong time getting it as perfect as possible. They didn’t seem to care how the logbook was presented as long as it was neat and organized.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST. I did not use the RST COG trainer bc it was taken down but the resources for COG listed in Day 1 were helpful and I felt prepared and COG went fine.
Technical Test Questions Several CG questions (cruise speed, stability, stall speed, etc), Fowler flap, aero questions that RST mostly covered, dehavilland plane breakup, dihedral wing question that I wasn’t sure about but can’t remember exactly (different than RST flashcard question), ILS GS distance, runway edge lighting, LAHSO and takeoff hold light question (including extinguishing for anticipated separation), ITM, altimeter set incorrectly are you high/low x2. Overall I felt I could eliminate two answers and then sometimes guessed between the remaining two. Except for math problems I didn’t feel pressured for time.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? I had a few radial, distance, holding questions which were hard for me, but they were hard when I studied too, so YMMV.
Cog Test Straight forward if you read the directions and don’t rush too much. Use the practice sessions they give you. Use the resources RST lists and it’ll be fine.
Cog Math Questions I’m not very quick with math when I can’t use paper/pen so this whole section was hard for me and I felt like I guessed a lot but there were only 4-5 questions.
HR Questions Professional intro 4-5 min, how did you fall in love with aviation, most difficult part of college (I think that was geared toward a couple C’s I had), tell me about your check ride failure from pilot training, TMAT above and beyond customer service, WWYD Capt drinking within 8 hrs (this one played out for a bit), WWYD as Capt if FO was doing your flow, what would be hardest part of working for Delta. There were 1-2 more, possibly relating to stress mgt but I can’t remember exactly.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 weeks, not enough really. I was uncomfortable with some of it.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? None except RST. I’d do EC if I did it again to gain confidence.
Any additional information you would like to add. I was a nervous wreck during the interview despite their politeness and mostly non threatening demeanor. Stay nearby, walk with others to the interview and go to dinner together…it helps. Try to get a good night’s sleep (though I couldn’t), it’s a long day. 4/6 of us had to retake MMPI on day 2 for being too positive…but the second time was usable. The psych interview felt relatively short, TMAT stressful personal situation, TMAT coworker conflict, TMAT you received criticism, TMAT you made a mistake.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Better interview prep via EC or other face to face prep work so I was less nervous/confident.
