General Overview of Experience I can’t say enough great things about my interview experience with United. This was my 3rd major airline interview and from the minute I walked in I knew this was the airline I wanted to work for for the rest of my career. Everyone is so friendly and really makes you feel like they want you to be successful and that they want to hire you.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? LOTS of job fairs. United does an excellent job sending the same recruiters year after year to events like WAI and OBAP so if you’re dedicated to going to these conferences you really can develop a strong rapport with the recruiters.
That being said, after years of going to these conferences I also don’t think it was a coincidence that I got interview offers from both United and Delta right after working with Seth at Airline Transition Consultants to polish my application.
Like we’ve all been told over and over, letters of rec and job fairs can get your application pulled but if it doesn’t score high enough when it’s pulled you’ll never get the call to interview.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No, I used Seth Shall from Airline Transition Consultants so I went in feeling very confident about my application.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? United has really streamlined the technical portion of the interview. Before flying out to Denver they’ll send you their callouts to memorize. Study those and if you’re currently flying the line you’ll be fine with the questions they ask regarding departure and arrival procedures.
Technical Test Questions Basic questions regarding SIDs, STARs, etc.
They’ll also have you explain how you’d choose an airport to divert to when the airport you’re going to closes for some reason. They’ll give you 3 airport options and as soon as you choose and explain why you made that decision the technical portion was over.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? n/a
Cog Test
Cog Math Questions
HR Questions TMAAT there was a conflict between 2 crew members, what did you do to ease the situation?
TMAAT you made a mistake and what did you learn from it?
TMAAT you flew with a captain who wasn’t fit to be working?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 5 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? For HR prep I used Lori Clark at Clark Consulting and ECIC. Lori was so great I ended up not doing a top off with ECIC. I know ECIC offers a good product but as these airlines continue to interview more and more people it seems Emerald Coast is having a harder time accommodating their clients.
Any additional information you would like to add. I actually had no internal letters of recommendation when I got the interview offer. *** That’s not an option above ***
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
