General Overview of Experience Similar to prior trip reports. Everyone is super cool and they all want you to make it. I’m a very social person so I just naturally spoke with everyone I came in contact with and tried to just be myself and not overthink things. Everyone knows what you’re there for (monkey suit) so everyone I came in contact with on the way in wished me good luck, gave advice, etc. which was cool. I honestly had a great time throughout the day, despite the stress. They just want to see who you are and how you operate. No tricks, no good cop/bad cop, just plain old conversation and a quick chair flight to get to know you in and out of the cockpit.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I had a friend who is a United FO give my resume to his chief pilot and I had a great meet and greet with the United folks at OBAP; however, I have no way of correlating these events with the interview invite.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No issues. I just provided copies of everything paper clipped in the order they asked for it. I brought my original (required) and digital (not required) logbooks. Not one question.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? I prepared for the TSA/CRM portion using ECIC and the United Interview Prep packet that was sent to me by United when I was invited to interview.
Technical Test Questions Overall the TSA/CRM portions were very straightforward. I feel like if you don’t just go in there and be yourself you will overthink it and potentially mess something up. You’re a professional pilot, just do what you do everyday and you should be fine.
TSA: No changes from other TRs. Departure Brief, minor emergency after takeoff, Arrival Brief, and a divert scenario. Very straight forward and it seems like they are just trying to get to know you and your decision making process. Know the callouts from the United Briefing Packet cold.
CRM: No changes. Pay attention to the video and debrief what you noticed.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? N/A
Cog Test N/A
Cog Math Questions N/A

Any questions for us?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 5 months.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC and I think it is a valuable tool if used correctly. For me, It just helped me to rediscover my past and dig to find the stories I wanted to tell. The Top Off was great and really gave me a nice confidence boost going into the interview.
Any additional information you would like to add. The team at United is great. The job is yours to lose. Be yourself and try to have fun!
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No.
