Which Airline did you interview with? Delta
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 8 Weeks between Invite & interview, listed available 2 weeks
Did you receive a job offer? 12 months call back
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? I think it was a combination of HR, Job Knowledge & maybe Cog
What is your experience? 121 and 135
Total Flight Time 3,000-4,000
Total Turbine PIC Time < 1,000
General Overview of Experience Everyone was nice but it is a difficult stressful process.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Delta Career Expo
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? I had selected no to the question of checkride, proficiency check failures etc. They saw on my Piedmont records I got an UNSAT on the systems test which on the same paperwork it says it is not a failure. SO then I had to change the answer on the application to a yes was really questioned about it.
Do you feel like your UNSAT during Piedmont systems test was a failure? What did you learn from it.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST, I tried to read Mental Math for pilots as well but just ran out of time.
Technical Test Questions I cant remember specific questions but I got a lot of turbine engine questions, about phases and parts, holding, how to enter a hold, time to decent, and holding fuel burn. Only one on slotted flaps vs non benefits.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? I can’t remember specific questions but for me the hardest part was being in a rush. I think I missed a lot of questions at the end because I was just trying to answer something.
Cog Test I was really thrown off by the one with the airplane (triangle) and the remember the previous number because it didn’t seem like the triangle was responding at all to my inputs so I got distracted by that I missed a lot of numbers. It responded very different to the previous test with just keeping the triangle centered.
Cog Math Questions I know I got at least one of these wrong because I was trying to rush because I didn’t want to run out of time. Be aware they use words (one) instead of numbers (1) in the questions. Take your time to answer correctly. It doesn’t change quick like on RST.
HR Questions 3 min intro, Tell us about your incident-any takeaways?
What is complacency and how do we avoid it? Why did you choose your college, how was your experience there?
What do you tell young kids about education? Do you think its important for aviators to have a degree? (I had a hard time answering this question, I didn’t know what they were asking)
We see you left your charter position partly due to culture, tell us about that.(unfortunately I did not have a answer prepared for this, it was difficult to explain)
How did you come to the decision to change to the airlines vs business aviation?
Have you applied elsewhere?
How did you prepare for this interview?
What happened the day you noted in your logbook you returned to gate to remove passenger. (told them but I don’t think they liked my answer because we went back on the request of the FA and really had no involvement)
If (Delta reference named) was here what would he say about you?
What will you bring to Delta?
WWYD High on Arrival, Capt is not going to make crossing restriction.
WWYD Crew member isn’t listening multiple days to crew briefing
WWYD Loud bang in the back, FA calls up passengers scared. (initially thought it had to do with pressurization, checked with mx, leveled off and continued flight, they gave me more info that the EPR gauge bounced, indicating compressor stall, so I returned to base)
Tell us a time you’ve provided great customer service, (told a charter example, then they requested an airline example)
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 3 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast, although I think it helped with somethings it hurt with other. It made me feel over prepared because I knew how to answer the questions they used but made me thrown off more to get questions I hadn’t prepared for and that don’t fit within their categories. Overall I wouldn’t recommend them- I feel like I would’ve been better off using that time to practice answering more questions with people who have gone through the process.
Any additional information you would like to add. None
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Start studying sooner, I was a little surprised when I got the invite to interview because I had a recruiter tell me that I wouldn’t get contacted till after I upgraded and got PIC Turbine time. So it would be about a year, about 3 -4 months later I got an invite to interview and my overall knowledge about turbine engines was weak. I’ve never had formal education on the topics and just learned enough to get my type ratings. So even with RST I was still weak.
I also would instead of doing Emerald Coast just practice HR questions everyday with different people. I was too timid to ask pilots I knew that I should’ve practiced with even if it was just over the phone. (I practiced with my husband who is not a pilot)
