TPIC Military hours 1000-2000

General Overview of Experience Excellent. They were very professional. Get your paperwork ready early. I probably checked it 10 times as well as having other people check it. Do exactly what they say with nothing extra. Don’t bind anything, just give stacks of paper. If the copies of your licenses and passport are good enough they will not need originals(still bring them).
Use facebook to connect with the other members of your group. This is done on the Delta RST facebook group. There is also a lot of good info passed on the group in terms of ride reports. I chose to fly out 2 days early so I could get acclimated to east coast time. I also changed my sleep schedule a couple days before flying out to help with the transition from California to Georgia. If you have a day off or time during the interview check out the Delta Museum. It gave me couple talking points and was good to clear the mind.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I had an internal recc submitted 6 months prior to my availability.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. They were not even brought up.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST is worth it just for the COG. I probably did the COG 20 times. Overkill but it does give you confidence when you take the actual test. There are some difference videos that will bridge the gap between the practice test and the one you take. For the JKT I did the RST 15 day checklist times 2. After that I just reviewed things I was weak on at looked at some of the gouge. I prepped for a good 2 months. 4-6 weeks would have probably been fine.
Technical Test Questions I don’t really remember anything specific. There were probably 20 or so questions that were very close to questions on RST. Of the 60 questions there were 10 I wasn’t pretty sure of the correct answer and on those 10 I fell like I got 1/3 to half of them. If you understand the concepts on the flash cards and are getting above 90 on the RST tests you should do fine.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? See above.
Cog Test Easy after the RST Cog test. When doing the RST test make sure you say your number / letter matching sequence in your head between each test. There are multiple breaks during the actual test that you are able to go over the sequence. For me it came up 2 more times.
Cog Math Questions Easier than RST. If you are ok at math they are not an issue. If you are not I wouldn’t sweat it too much. It is only one section. I think I got 4-5 questions total.
HR Questions A retired captain, current captain and HR person. HR person grabs you and takes you back to a round table that is about 4 feet in diameter. I took off my coat (they don’t care). My firm belief is that all they want to do is verify you are who you say in your app, understand your thought process in various situations, and feel like they would enjoy BSing with you for a 5 hour flight. My group was constantly laughing and very friendly. They immediately tried to put me at ease. We actually talked a little football. Honestly I felt like I was with pilots telling sea stories. Started off with my intro(they asked for 2-3 minutes) and then 5-6 questions about my app. Talked about high school, college (grades were decent so no questions but I understand they do like to ask if you have any issues here), and then verified things like driving record and training failures. They can’t directly ask about the reserves but one guy did ask if my squadron was a reserve squadron. I took the opportunity to tell them my plan exactly(I am trying to join a flying reserve unit). I feel they really value honesty more than anything else. I did assure them Delta was my number one priority. They then shifted to questions about being at bases I didn’t want and managing family life with work life, as well as transitioning from flying fighter jets to commercial airlines. For tell me about a time they asked about my worst emergency, and tell me about a time you disagreed with a superior. For WWYD I had a situation where I was about to start my descent into an airport in Japan and it closes for a natural disaster. The only thing I got stuck on during this whole process is how do you keep the passengers from getting too many details and freaking out. The eventual answer which they helped me on was you can’t since all planes have WIFI on board. The other WWYD questions was a passenger with 1 too many bags and he doesn’t want to give it up.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast!! I have never interviewed before. Emerald Coast gave me a format to tell my story. Do not use their examples. They don’t want canned answers. Use the prep to practice telling your story. I actually setup pictures around a table and recorded myself talking to them. Also did the same thing with other people reading questions off a script.
Any additional information you would like to add. None
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No
