General Overview of Experience Good experience! Long day though! I completed the HR interview first, so I had about 3 hours to kill after that. The stress is mentally fatiging. As previously stated, HR guys were great. My HR part went really well. Feedback was that they really liked me. Be yourself! Did the cog test after lunch! pretty straight forward, although some of the math percentage questions were head scratchers. Would have been nice to have some prep on prrcentages! Last was the knowledge test. Felt kind of brain fried by this time, but wanted to get it done with. I studied RST pretty in depth…hours and hours put in. In all honesty, I didnt feel it prepared me well. I would guess that I recognised only 6 or 7 of the questions on the test from the prep material. I had several NDB questions, which i wasnt ready for. Didn’t even consider those types of questions since they’re more or less obsolete now. I had very little NDB exposure during my flight training, so I probably got a couple of those wrong. Guess they need to update their question bank! I know it’s been mentioned before, so I’ll echo it again, many of the answers don’t seem to match. Even simple “alt to lose by a certain DME” type questions didnt have a good answer. I’m invited back in 6 months, so I’ll continue to study RST, but will definitely dive into other resiurces.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? nope, just applied.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? no
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST..hours and hours of it.
Technical Test Questions Several NDB questions. I think I had about 4 or 5 math questions. I remember 1 on rudder in a turn (skid). another on Rwy lighting. Another one that I and several guys I’ve asked now that have never heard…what is an “altitude alert”. Is it something to do with decision ht, terrain alert or a level off altitude or a deviation from your preselted altitude? I can’t find a distinct definition. I’m an airline guy, asked several other long time airline guys and none of us have even heard of it!

What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? NDB questions. one showed 4 or 6 different NDB graphics and asked which one indicated the 070 bearing. No mention of winds or anything else, but none of the diagrams showed the needle pointing to 070 or 250 or anything close! this was one of those that the answer didnt seem to be there! Overall, good experience, just disappointed in the knowledge test.
Cog Test Absolutely irrelevant to anything in reality, but still part of the process. as I mentioned, wish I would have practiced some percentage type problems.
Cog Math Questions ???
HR Questions WWYD…Thunderstorm ahead question. TMAAT…stressful situation.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? couple months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast…great help.
Any additional information you would like to add. Honestly, i felt a little let down by the RST prep. Several before me praised it. Don’t get me wrong, it was extremely helpful, but like I said, I only had a couple test question that I recalled from the prep material. I will still utilize RST for the next interview in 6 months, but will expand my reading quite a bit to broaden my exposure!
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Incorporated some initial instrument material into my studying.
