General Overview of Experience Great experience, very kind and professional through and through. They were doing constuction (expanding) in the pilot selection area so now you sit out in the common area by the elevators while awaiting your testing/hr slot. We went back as a group with Capt. Kraby to a conference room in the ‘Social Situation Room’ (facebook/twitter/news/monitoring), and he put us at ease with a quick story and intro. We were then given a sheet of paper with the schedule. I interviewed first and got done around 0930 with HR, then got some coffee and lunch/relaxed for a bit before starting the testing at 1200. This took around 2.5 hours and then went back out to the common area. Because of the construction they were bringing people back individually to tell them the news and that’s how the day ended.

Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST, everything explained, past gouge
Technical Test Questions Not a lot on engines or descent problems. Mine seemed to have a lot of fuel pump/tank questions, holding, -ITMA+ stuff, performance questions (temp/alt/px/ etc…), constant speed drive does what (vAC, vDC, Hz, or Phase),
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? There were a few questions that were really long, but you only really needed the last sentence or so, just beware of that. Also, know the concepts well, the questions are similar for the most part and sometimes dead on, but you’re going to have to split some hairs between answers in a lot of cases.
Cog Test Do the cog trainer and you’ll be good to go. Listen to the RST Cog Webinar! good stuff. One candidate said the UXLT-O test only asked him to repeat it as a ‘pop-up’ test once, and right after he had completed that section. Mine came up right after as well and then about 4 sections later so make sure you memorize those symbol/digit combos during it!
Cog Math Questions Had around 5, there was a document on the Facebook site under ‘files’ that had a bunch of the questions with verified answers; many of these were word for word on the test. I read over these a bunch of times so I could spot the answers almost before reading the entire question, but don’t depend completely on that technique obviously.
HR Questions Tell me about your career in around 5 min; What’s the significance of this date dd/mm/yy? (first solo and expanded greatly on it to show passion etc…); Why Delta?; What if you flew with a CA that had an ego bubble and had to do things their way? (I answered with a story on how I dealt with and overcame a situation like this); What’s your strategy to deal with missing big life events?; What would you bring to Delta?; What is a FO/CA’s job outside just flying the aircraft and are they different?; FL370 CA wants to fly through a T-storm wwyd (later changed it to a gap they were trying to shoot between), I escalated it to making a call to ATC after a bit and said we need 30 right and he said the captain got on right after and said “disregard”… I explained we were going to have to talk to the pro stans/Chief pilot and they said “go ahead”… Well, I wasn’t going to get in a fight at F370, but didn’t want to fly into a cell either, so I stated if the gap was big enough then my option is to call the FA’s and tell them to sit down, make a PA and ensure the seatbelt sign is on, and tell the CA we need to slow to Turb Pen Speed and talk to Pro Stans together after.; They asked what I would do if my FO corrected me–told them a story and answered it that way.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 5 Weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast; I did two webinars and the top-off at the end (two days prior to the interview). I thought these were great and highly recommend doing those along with the HR Webinar offered by RST. Just ensure you’re not memorizing anyone elses answers. They want your story and your answers. The way they combat this is through follow-up questions and pressure, so make it your own! Also, try to throw customer service into as many stories as you can and complete the story with how you learned from it if appropriate (IMHO).
Any additional information you would like to add. Everyone say’s be yourself. I say yes, but check yourself too. land somewhere on the bell-curve of “normal” if that makes sense and be humble. I talked about some awards I received, but rounded it out with “the most important one was from my classmates and instructors, we were a team and earned our success together” (or something like that). Also, I tried to look at as many questions on ride reports as I could and try to come up with a story from the past. When they asked me a question like WWYD or TMAAT it almost didn’t matter, I had a story for either scenario in most cases.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I felt like I bombed the Job knowledge, there were just a lot of answers you had to scrutinize and go with the best one. That being said I don’t think studying any more would have done a whole lot; it was just a little frustrating.
