Which Airline did you interview with? Delta
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability?
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process?
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 3,000-4,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience Great experience, everyone at Delta is very professional and has your best interest in mind. Reference other Delta reports.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Yes, maybe, I updated my app a week prior to the email invite to come interview. Although I had been updating my app every month and half prior so I’m not sure if this was the trigger or not.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No, as a military applicant they wanted my Fitreps and NATOPS jacket which was a problem since I had been retired for 3 years. If anyone else is in this position I recommend keeping an eye on your NATOPS jacket and I had to order my Officer record from BUPERS which took two weeks to get to my home address so I could print out my missing Fitreps. It all was quite painful and not sure if they even looked at them?
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? I had tons of gouge passed on from my fellow military friends, subscribed to RST which is huge for the COG study.
Technical Test Questions Had many questions dealing with aero so you have to know the concepts not just the study questions. Lots of questions on pressure alt and temp and there relationship with thrust and efficiency. Had a pretty easy distance and rate of descent required but all the answers were in SM not NM, know the conversion.
What does a tailwind windshear due to your aircraft as it applies to IAS and GS?
Takeoff at Zulu and land at Zulu what is the local time on 15 Dec? (given summer and winter conversion numbers)
What would you worry most about when landing on a wet runway? No reversers, auto brakes, auto spoilers, or antiskid. I picked antiskid
Proper method for arcing? put station on wing and hold 5 deg AOB, turn 5-10 degrees and put tail of needle in front of wing then turn again when it is behind your wing, another answer similar but opposite behind and in front of wing scenario, something else.
What happens at critical AOA? Max lift, stall, two other things
If you apply left rudder, what happens to they aircraft? rolls left, adverse yaw right, two others
Had some easy questions as well-
What control surface controls lateral axis?
What measures volts in an aircraft?
Can’t remember the others but I will reiterate you need to know how everything works together not just the question and answer. Had 3 test failures in my interview class.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Nothing to bad read above.
Cog Test All good. RST makes this part of the test very low stress. All went as advertised. Remember the letter to number matching it will come back two other times after you see it for the first time. It is to test short and long term recall. I repeated it several times after each subsequent test to make sure I didn’t forget it. Many of the test are shorter than RST which is good, so if you can do RST, you can concentrate on the real COG.
Cog Math Questions Math was pretty straight forward, only one percent question. the rest were time and number questions
HR Questions Thought this was very fair given my military single seat background. No FAR questions and they tailored the questions to my background.
Tell us about yourself from HS?
What was your most endowed flight experience?
What have you done to prepare for the first year financial hit?
When would you take the controls from the Captain?
Who inspired you most to fly? Why
What type of leader are you? Why
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? I took EC three years ago and two weeks prior to my interview I stood in on a refresher course that was near my house. I didn’t do the top off.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? EC, It was good. Had Mr.Hagan three years ago and then has Bill “Possum” Sims for my refresher. Both good guys and very helpful in organizing my thoughts. I have tons of stories just needed structure for presentation purposes. They really go into “show your work”, IE…why are you saying or choosing the way you are, use names, details, geographic location to tell your stories.
Any additional information you would like to add. Nothing to add
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? The test are no joke, give yourself plenty of time to study and feel as comfortable as you can. I had a friend who pushed his interview date back to give himself plenty of study time. Ask yourself if you want to work at Delta in this particular case and then get after it. If you are undecided or don’t care then your prep will be different. I flew military aircraft for 20 years and I would maybe get 10 of the 60 questions right if I had not done anything but shown up on my interview date. The COG test measures brain function so you will either be successful or not, but the JKT in my opinion is used to weed out those that don’t prepare or don’t really care if they fly for Delta or not. Like I said it is a hurdle, im not going to be deciding whether or not my aircraft is in a proverse or adverse yaw when I’m flying but you better know it for the test.
What can we do to improve our services? All good
Concepts not covered by RST None
