Which Airline did you interview with? FedEx
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 4 weeks
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military and 121
Total Flight Time 2,000-3,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience Great Experience. FedEx is first class.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 6-12 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal rec.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. I had it all laid out exactly as they wanted. My military and 121 times were listed in an excel sheet with the multiplier used. No problems or questions on any of my paperwork.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST. Well worth it. Study the COG, it makes things so much easier.
Technical Test Questions I have forgotten a bit since it has been a few weeks since I took the test. However, here is my view. I knew I was not going to know everything. I took the time to get a basic understanding of Aero, Engines, and the math formulas. This will probably cover about 75% of the test which means that the other 25% take the time to narrow it down to 2 good answers and pick the best. The 2 good answers to work it down to so go with it.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? The new stuff. Such as the lighting on the runway that is controlled now, etc.
Cog Test RST is much harder and more taxing. Utilize this to the most you can. I took about an hour each night just doing the COG test until I had it down.
Cog Math Questions RST is much harder. When you do the practice tests take the time to figure out the way to the best answer. Long math computations will slow you down, my view was to look at the answers and do the quick math which narrowed it down very quickly.
HR Questions I was an Ops Officer at one time so my questions were a little different
– TMAT-You made an impact to the large organization; You had a flight that did not go as planned.
– What would you do if you saw that your FO or CA was making mistakes. Have you ever encountered someone who was having problems.
– Tell us about yourself that is not in your resume. Take some time to talk about your family.
– They asked about some of the planes I have flown and what it was like.
– How do you like flying at your current 121 job and what do you think about the job now?
– How many interviews did you have at the Regionals.
– Tell us FedEx Domiciles, Aircraft, PSP, the purple statement etc.
– They will ask about check ride failures. OWN up to it. We all make mistakes. They asked about mine and it was pretty crappy but you have to own up to it.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? A lady at Randolph AFB (Airman and Family Readiness Center) does this for military pilots. She is phenomenal and will coach you on how to be yourself. She also takes the time to cover SBI scenarios because FedEx is not the only company that does a SBI. It costs me about $300 for everything (lodging, travel, food, and rental car) and she goes above and beyond.
Any additional information you would like to add. I have read a few ride-reports and have noticed what I considered whining about how the FedEx process is. From my view the FedEx process is fair, they want to hire you and YES it is tough. You place the stress upon yourself and they want to see what you are made of. If you want to go with the company that kisses your butt then go that way. FedEx is tough for a reason, its not easy and the stress of waiting sucks but hey in the end it is worth it.
Everyone who you come in contact with these two days is analyzing you. They have a vested interest in this company and want you to succeed. April is awesome and so is Kim. Take the time to understand that common courtesy’s such as Ma’am, Sir, Standing, Shaking hands, saying hi is very important. The Purple statement is very well if not a part of them, make it a part of you. This company is solid and it is a coveted position. As I alluded to earlier if you are going to whine about the interview process, go ahead but their is a reason why you are whining and don’t go with FedEx. I hope that you aren’t dealing with passengers because that is worse than putting up with some browbeating from people who want to hire you.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No.
