General Overview of Experience Great experience overall from start to finish to include meeting all the other interviewees. Definitely recommend meeting up the night prior to meet everyone.
I received positive space ticket about 3 weeks prior to the interview date via email. My departure flight was delayed so I did not interact with any of the Delta team (to allow them to take care of the paying customers). Stayed at the Hilton and everything was simple and effective (other than no hot water the morning of the interview) to walk to the Delta security gate and building 1020 (pilot interview building). If it’s raining, Hilton shuttle begins at 5am, runs every 15 min (talk w/ concierge the night prior to confirm), and is space-available/first-come, first served. Gather as a group in the foyer per the interview email between 715-730 and wait to be called for temporary badges (replaces the sticker badge the security gate personnel issues you). After that, everything is “as advertised.” Capt Barry Holmes does a great job welcoming the group, says some good jokes, and reminds you that the team really wants to get to know each individual and that it’s really just “pilots talking to pilots.” I had HR in the morning followed by testing in the afternoon. The interview team (one active Captain, a retired Captain, and HR) was very personal and upon interviewing the room and shaking hands, the HR individual had me review and initial different items on my application and then sign at the end of the app. They then introduced themselves (about 20 seconds each) and asked me to introduce myself in less than 5 minutes by telling them about myself and my career and how I got here today. I provided a 4-min intro and then we talked about a college class which was my lowest graded course and involvement in volunteer activities. After about 20 min of this, the retired Captain said, “well, let’s move on to the next portion of the interview” and then we began discussing:
TMAAT you had conflict in cockpit and how did you handle it?
You’re the Captain, WWYD if FA informed you that meals were not going to arrive for another 30 min (currently less than 5 min from pushback) and it was a 2 hour flight scheduled to depart at 3pm?
You’re the Captain, WWYD if anti-skid light illuminated while airborne?
You’re the FO, WWYD if the Captain on your 4 day trip repeatedly flew 10-15 knots slow?
In total it was about 50 min in duration and for the Captain + HR interview portion. We took a break for lunch and the entire group walked to the cafe across the street for a quick 30+ min lunch.
Right after lunch we began the COG, personality, and JKT tests. COG was not as challenging as the RST Delta (good thing). Personality test was straight forward, and JKT was tough. As everyone says, know the concepts. I felt pretty good about the JKT based on my RST Delta scores but it was still a challenge.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 6-12 months
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I had one internal rec before the in-house job fair so I’m not sure which triggered the app review and invite.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 7 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? none whatsoever.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? started the 15 day checklist about 20 days prior in order to finish early and solely focus on HR prep. Highly recommend others focus on prepping for HR as emphasis as previous trip reports have stated.
Technical Test Questions all similar to RST
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? most all were challenging, none stand out.
Cog Test as advertised. no surprises if you’ve done all the RST COG.
Cog Math Questions seems like there is more time to accomplish the math
HR Questions TMAAT you had conflict in cockpit and how did you handle it?
You’re the Captain, WWYD if FA informed you that meals were not going to arrive for another 30 min (currently less than 5 min from pushback) and it was a 2 hour flight scheduled to depart at 3pm?
You’re the Captain, WWYD if anti-skid light illuminated while airborne?
You’re the FO, WWYD if the Captain on your 4 day trip repeatedly flew 10-15 knots slow?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Cage and I think their personalized service is outstanding
Any additional information you would like to add. not really
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I didn’t feel fully prepared prior to the interview but after I felt it was just about right.
