Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 2,000-3,000
Total Turbine PIC Time
TPIC 121 hours 0
TPIC Military hours 1000-2000
TPIC 91/135 0
General Overview of Experience Great. Staff is very friendly, but the JKT was awful. I felt very prepared and followed RST to the letter for 6 weeks. I believe I had a tough test, five math questions (one from RST) and very heavy on Aero and Engines. Two right answers to almost every question. The question will be very vague to make sure you understand the concept. Know the concepts before you go!
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? <60 days
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Delta ATP-CTP app review activation. The Delta ATP-CTP course or a 6 month call back seems to be the key to an interview right now. Captain Holmes alluded to this requirement during our in-brief, without saying it outright. He gave the impression that it will be slow hiring for awhile and an already competitive process would be even more competitive until the flood gates are reopened.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. Not sure they spent anytime on my logbooks. Very few application questions, mostly focused on a simulator. I tried to build most of my app into my intro. That said, most others spend a significant amount of time asking questions from the application.
Technical Test Questions I wish I could remember a single question, it’s all a blur now. Know effects of the movement of center of pressure, aerodynamic pressure, center of gravity, stability vs controllability. Some guys had ‘easy’ tests where they recognized upwards of 20 questions from RST and 0-1 math questions. I recognized only a few and truly had a grasp of the concepts after completing RST, it’s just a tough test.
What affects IAS during landing?
Temperature
Density Altitude
Weight
Wind
(I selected wind based on the ‘during landing’ comment). Could be weight too…
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Shifting center of pressure, CG, aerodynamic center, nose up/down pitching, etc. I felt really prepared for these after RST, but the wording of the question and answers make it difficult. Take your time and read everything closely (more than once).
HR Questions – 5 min intro, no family/personal, all professional – starting from H.S.
– Why your College?
– What type of FO would you be for Delta and what do you bring?
– Flight attendants are late due to a delay, gate agent wants to board right as they arrive. You’re the Captain, what do you do.
– You’re on deck in Atlanta and flying to ______ at 9pm, field is going to be uncontrolled on arrival and weather is at minimums. There find lights burnt out on the flight deck during preflight, but they’re not required to send the aircraft airborne. You’re the captain, what do you do?
– Before flight, flight attendant delivers a drink to the flight deck. Captain and jump seater are joking and make a crude remark toward the flight attendant. FA leaves visibly angry at the comment. You’re the FO, what would you do?
Cog Test Much easier than the current training materials.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? Slowly over a six month period, picked up with several webinars in the final weeks prior.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. Yes. Webinars are crowded and can be frustrating, however hearing other people struggle and do well will help you in the long run.
Any additional information you would like to add. Treat all of the staff the same as you would treat Captain Holmes. If you’re approached, stand up, smile, shake a hand, yes sir/no man. The physiologist may use your mannerisms against you.
May not be a good idea to talk about war stories with the physiologist. You can probably come up with a non-flying answer. War stories seemed to lead some to the PRB (or so we think).
Delta wants all transcripts, period. Even if your classes are covered by a transfer to another college, get the transcripts from every college you attended. We believe we lost a great candidate due to this minor oversight. Follow the instructions in the invitation/follow on emails exactly.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Felt great, don’t know what else I could have done for the test.
