General Overview of Experience I found the staff to be exceptionally friendly, encouraging, and genuinely helpful. They went out of their way to make sure we felt ready for the 2 days ahead. Overall the interview was very challenging. Cog / Tech Skills / Personality were as expected, and RST provided ample opportunity to prepare to a level beyond what was required to pass the tests. The HR and SBI portions were tough. The gloves were off, and the phrasing of their questions and personal dispositions were such that it felt like each of my responses was met with scrutiny, doubt, and/or disapproval. The only thing to do was continue to smile and try to present authentically. These folks have seen and heard all the scripted, canned answers, and I felt like anything that was too rehearsed would have been rejected immediately. Other people in my group had that experience. I just told them the ugly truth to the questions they asked and pressed through. HR took over an hour.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Constant app updates, 1 job fair.
How many internal recs did you have? 0
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? It doesn’t matter if your paperwork and logbooks are meticulous and perfect, expect some pushback. Smile, breathe, and remain polite.
Technical Test Questions A recent FDX applicant received a job offer, and got too specific on the trip report he published online. They were able to identify who he was based on his responses to these questions, and they rescinded his offer. Trust me that RST will prep you very well for the JKT. I spent 8 weeks prepping, not just the 15 day prep course.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? N/A
HR Questions Smile, breathe, and remain polite. This was a tough and probing session. TMAAT with multiple follow ons to dissect your response. No BSing….they’ll sniff it out and you’ll be toast.
Cog Test I found Lumosity to be a fantastic investment, as well as the RST Cog trainer. Even the current battery of tests will give you a good idea of the skills required.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 8 months.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help?
Any additional information you would like to add. On Day 2 of the interview FDX warns people not to share specifics of our experience on trip reports to protect their process. Do RST, and remember to be humble and honest and they’ll respond well to that. They don’t want perfection, they want humans who are humble enough to admit their all-too-human tendencies and show an enthusiasm to continue developing professionally. Also, stay at one of the hotels they recommend….let the shuttle driver do all the navigating. You have bigger things to think about than whether you’re in the correct parking lot.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? More SBI prep sessions. Also, it is possible to prep for the personality inventory. Look up MMPI and the ways a respondent can trigger invalid results by presenting a “false good.” Their test is not the same as MMPI, but I’m confident they’re flushing out who tends to lie about his / her disposition. Be honest. Everyone gets angry in traffic from time to time. We’re human, and they want pilots who are comfortable and confident enough to admit it.
