Which Airline did you interview with? American
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? Date available 31 Dec 2016, 2 weeks from video interview to invite, 30 days from invite to interview
Did you receive a job offer? 12 months call back
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? Not sure. The HR portion did not leave a good impression. It was very cold and unlike the rest of the process.
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 4,000-5,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience The experience was great. The experience was exactly as reported by others. Everyone very friendly, except my HR. They put you very much at ease. Maybe too much. I would emphasize to be interviewing for every second. Even hanging out with fellow interviewees. I know others have said this, but my best advise is don’t the the environment through you off your game for a second. I got TBNT email, with no mention of call back. I did not look into it. Got hired elsewhere.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 6-12 months
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I am not 100% sure what triggered it. I did attend OBAP and meet with American. It might have been internal help, but I don’t know for sure.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? Studied the .ppt, but it really only gives you familiarization.
Technical Test Questions NA
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? NA
Cog Test Stay focused, don’t get frustrated.
Cog Math Questions Maybe practice the math part 4 _ 12 _ 13 _ 8 = 42. I found these very challenging. BTW there is no answer to that example.
HR Questions The gouge is spot on. No surprises. So, this is something I had heard but did not internalize. I did take the HR portion seriously, but it is hard not to have a let down. It’s one on one and after the pilot interview portion, so again stay 100% in your game. Same answers, same format as you have prepped. BTW I was told to tell the truth if they ask if you are interviewing anywhere else. I got a VERY NEGATIVE reaction from my HR rep when I told her I was interviewing somewhere else.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast. Yes it helped very much.
Any additional information you would like to add. I know most people preach maximum contact during the interview process. For example take the crew bus, talk to flight attendants and pilots, socialize with fellow interviewees. Just keep in mind that every contact is a chance to step on your schwartz. You will have to figure out for yourself if the possible negatives out way possible positives.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I should have done a more thorough review of the material in closer proximity to the interview. I did a ton of prep prior to OBAP and thought I still had a good handle on it. However, my prep for the next interview highlighted to me that I could have been more polished.
