Which Airline did you interview with? Delta Air Lines
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability?
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 3,000-4,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience US Navy P-3 Aircraft Commander, Mission Commander and Instructor Pilot. Aviation Safety Officer, NATOPS Evaluator, Chief of Training, Chief of Operations and Commanding Officer.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I met someone who’s bother is a high up at Delta, which I’m sure did not hurt getting my name to the review panel.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No issues at all. I just brought my log books – no special spreadsheet with hour/aircraft breakdown. They did walk through my application and HR person checked-off items as I told them about myself since high school.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? I downed COG portion in April, but was fortunate to get a second opportunity after 6 months. RST was awesome prep for COG and passed this time no problems I did NOT use them the first time). The one area that was harder was the sounds – on the real test each one has 6-7 sounds which made it more challenging. For JKT I used readings, videos, flashcards and quizzes from RST along with Everything Explained for the Professional Pilot for reference. Know the concepts and NOT just the questions/answers on RST or you’ll get crushed. I only recognized about 10 questions from RST question bank. However, I felt good on 45 of them, and had to totally guess on about 5-7.
Technical Test Questions See previous comments.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? What is a aileron/spoiler mixer? I narrowed it down to two, but I guessed wrong after talking to another guy after the test who flew a 737 with them installed. Apparently they help with lateral stability.
Cog Test See previous comments.
Cog Math Questions Much easier than RST trainer. Got through 5.
HR Questions Tell me about yourself since high school. What was your most challenging flight. Tell me about a time you had a conflict with a senior person in the aircraft. What do you do if you’re the Captain and the FO refuses to wear his hat.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 1 week for an hour a day.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? None. I don’t think it’s needed. Use the HR trainer and practice answers in front of the mirror or with a friend/spouse. BE YOURSELF and don’t provide canned answers – they can tell the difference.
Any additional information you would like to add. 7 of 8 got a CJO. The one failure was for HR. I heard he did not open up enough during the interview and they felt they did not get to know him. Staff was all very nice and they want to hire you. It’s your job to lose! They’ve hired almost 1,300 pilots in 2016 and may hire that much for the next couple of years.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I could have always used more study time.
