Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? | My first 20 years of flying was in traditional logbooks (with lots of corrections). The last 10 were electronic. Since I thought providing one format might look more organized, I spent months entering all of my flights into the electronic format. I produced a nice printed and bound copy of my e logbook thinking that the simpler; the better. Cost about $70 at Office Depot. The panel’s first question was “where are your logbooks?” Luckily, I had all of my originals in my bag in the bag room. They said that they would look at them at the conclusion of the interview. At the end of interview, I retrieved my handwritten logbooks. They took them and closed the door. They said that I could pick them up at the reception desk. After lunch they were sitting on the reception desk and nothing else was said.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? | RST
Technical Test Questions | I did not get any radial/mileage/DME/turn radius formula based questions. Lots of system and engine theory stuff. CG/stability aero stuff.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? | Weird time zone question: 4.5 hour flight MIA-LAX take off ____local, land ____Z. What time Z in MIA and local in LAX?????? I know that LAX is -7 summer and -8 winter but didn’t help me. I guessed b/t two plausible answers.
Cog Test | The COG trainer being down stressed me out as my interview neared but the concepts introduced in the COG trainer video were very helpful. Each section of the cog test allows you ample time to practice before “game on” as well as detailed instructions before each new section are provided. I was one of the last to finish the COG test. I recommend taking your time reading the instructions and take advantage of the practice before each section begins. The cog is not timed so take your time between sections. I did not get to touch the RST COG trainer for over two weeks prior to my interview but evidently did OK. Lastly, the LOC tester (keeping the line from “hitting the wall”) was more difficult then I remember from the two times I did get to use the RST trainer. IF the LOC deviation line gets close to full scale, it actually speeds up. You have to click it once to get it to slow and then again to get it back toward ctr.
Cog Math Questions | I did get one “Delta Math” question – HATE THEM – can’t help you there.
HR Questions | I had FIVE people on the pnl (two observers training to be interviewers). This might to have been to my advantage as they strictly stuck to the script and no good/bad cop games. They said to just ignore the observers and to RELAX. Easy with 10 eyes looking at you — NOT. Prepping is necessary but remain flexible and true to what you believe as no prep service can prepare you for all variations of how the scenario is introduced and the potential follow-ups. Stay away from “canned” answers. Your intro is key. They asked me follow up from my intro which is cool since its the stuff I know best. I also came back to traits pointed out in my intro in later story/lists answers. I was least prepared for “Why You” if we were only going to take one of you today? I was super ready for “why Delta” and that didn’t fit the question. Don’t be afraid to “sell yourself” if necessary. Every one is nice and polite. No games.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? | Been “data mining stories and collecting them in a Journal for 8 months. Hit EC stuff hard 3 weeks prior (should have started eariler)
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? | EC
Any additional information you would like to add. | Thank you for your service. Very valuable even without the COG trainer. Hopefully, you can provide at least a podcast audio trainer for the COG in the near future.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? | EC webinars and Top Offs fill up weeks in advance. Start that process early. |
I produced a nice printed
