General Overview of Experience The whole experience is as described in numerous reports. It really made a difference to meet everyone the night before for dinner. It is a high stress environment, but the interview team does a great job of making you feel welcome.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite?
Did you attend a job fair?
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation?
How many internal recs did you have?
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview?
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork?
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview?
Technical Test Questions I did not see any JKT questions that I had not seen in some form on the RST test bank. I only had one simple descent problem. The questions were worded a little differently, so take your time an make sure you are understanding what it is asking.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? I don’t recall specific questions. I must have had an easy test bank, because there were only 4 or 5 questions that I was not sure of.
Cog Test I believe I nailed the cog test. It was much easier than the RST trainer. I would sometimes get none of the math problems correct on the trainer, but on the real test I know I got all 4 of the math problems I received correct. The most stressful part was keeping the symbol recall remembered throughout the test. Mine wasn’t bad (U-OXLT)
Cog Math Questions
HR Questions The HR panel was great. They did the standard introduction and asked me to tell them about myself in 5 minutes from high school to present. I had to sign my availability date and they went over a few questions from my application. I had all scenario-based questions and no TMAAT. I was asked what I would do if Delta’s policy was to not take off with convective activity within 3 miles of the airport and I was in a situation where that the case and other airplanes were taking off. I was asked what I would do if en-route to Japan we found out there was a catastrophic earthquake and the airport was closed. I was asked what I would do if the captain made a lewd remark to the flight attendant and she went storming out of the cockpit. What would you do if you experienced compressor stalls at altitude and the only way to stop it was to pull the thrust lever back? (what are your considerations at that point?). That was pretty much it. The HR portion seemed to fly by.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview?
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast (webinar and top-off). Help get you in the correct mindset for various scenarios.
Any additional information you would like to add. I would like to add that I was told I did fine on the HR interview, but that I did not pass the test section. Which section, I was not told. I have no doubt that I passed the COG and the JKT unless there was some major screw up I didn’t notice. The only logical conclusion I can make is that I didn’t pass the 160+ question personality test. I had no idea that was a pass/fail section. I thought that data would supplement the MMPI and psychology interview. I have taken these types of test numerous times throughout my life and have never had a problem with them. Looking back, I may have been neutral on too many items. One example question I can remember is “You would rather be on a crowded beach than at a secluded cabin.” I put neutral on that because I enjoy both. It’s difficult to accept being so close, but not make the cut after trying very hard for over a decade to make it here. Good luck to those going forward.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
