General Overview of Experience Overall, it was an exceptional experience. The Pilot Selection team knows how stressful these two days of interviewing can be and they make it as comfortable as possible. They will put you at ease right on day 1 outlining the sequence of events that will take place. The whole process moves like clockwork. It is impressive to say the least.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Application Update
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? Not at all. I keep Paper logbooks and made sure I tabbed everything of importance (Checkrides, Type ratings, IOE etc). As for the paperwork required in the email, just make sure its in order and if you are like me, take an extra set just in case.
Technical Test Questions RST is a great resource for this portion of the Interview. I took the time to read through the concepts for each section so that if i found myself faced with a difficult question, I could fall back on the conceptual knowledge to carry me through.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Each candidate’s test seems to be different. Mine had more math and navigation questions (VOR tracking, 1/60 rule). I also had a fair share of engine turbine questions. My strategy was to study as many topics as I could so nothing caught me off guard.
HR Questions Extremely conversational. The first couple of questions are tailored towards breaking the ice and getting to know you a bit. After that you go into the situational based scenario questions. What I believe the panel really wants to see here is you working through the question, showing them your decision making process. I was stressed going into the HR portion based on what I had heard in the past and I’m happy to say it was nothing like that. It was a really personable experience.
Cog Test RST’s Brains games is great for this portion of the test. I paired this with lumosity. I would try and do as many cognitive enhancing sessions as I could over the span of 6 weeks. Lumosity helps a lot as well as you can track your progress and see it improving.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 3 weeks prior.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? I chose to not use any service and opted to go as organic as I could. It was a different approach and I think it helped me be more fluid with my answers.
Any additional information you would like to add. For everyone preparing to interview, this is a challenging interview because of how many different facets there are to it. I feel it’s important to not fully immerse yourself into any one singular topic. I would try and allocate at least 4-5 hrs a day of preparation when I wasn’t flying to preparation and made sure to balance as many study areas as I could. In the end it is an overwhelming experience but absolutely worth it when you get to walk out with a CJO. All the best to everyone interviewing.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? More time. Though that will always be the case. I think 5-6 weeks is ample in regards to preparation for this interview.
