General Overview of Experience It was a surprisingly pleasant experience, minus the last 45 minutes of day 1 waiting for the name-calls. You really have no perception of how the day is going because there isn’t really any feedback after HR, and no one feels especially good coming out of the testing… So it’s just a weird day.
Everyone was very professional, yet not cold/sterile. They invited you to interview because they want to hire you. Remember that… and show them you’re going to be a good ambassador of the Delta brand. Be nice to everyone, of course, but I would say to stay well clear of appearing to be a suck up. They do this all day, every day and can spot a fake.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Surpassed 4,000 total + finished masters.
How many internal recs did you have? 0
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. If you have multiple log books, number them somehow.
Technical Test Questions You set takeoff thrust, as you accelerate down the runway, what happens to thrust produced? 2 very wrong answers, 1 saying thrust deceased because inlet velocity is increasing and can impart less acceleration on the air (which coincides with a graph in… ANA page 118), 1 that thrust increases due to ram effect.
One time/radial change at 60DME, how long does it take to get to the VOR, but the answer was Zulu times, but easy.
One weirdly worded question about what happens after the compressor section but inside the combustion section, what happens… 2 very wrong answers, one answer that mentions a decrease in velocity/increase of pressure in the diffuser, and another answer that says fuel is introduced and burned… Both of those feel right, except the questions specially mentions combustion section.
Two different questions about runway lights… Centerline at the end and edge lights at the end.
Spacing of touchdown markings.
RST was great prep. Some questions were identical.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? I argued myself on the thrust/velocity question simply because the graphs in ANA Primary Flight Training paper, in the trust/power section, show a linear increase with velocity due to ram effect. However, a different graph in ANA, pg 118, shows an initial decrease in thrust until compressibility becomes more influential at higher velocity. Idk, I put thrust decreases initially because inlet velocity increases.
HR Questions Mostly WWYD that turned into TMAAT.
20 meals short on the plane, do you take the delay. Why.
Tell me about a time you were unsure about the outcome of a flight. Why. Looking back, what would you do differently.
Are you still involved with the listed volunteer organizations
I feel like my interview table was great. They were really nice and friendly, straight to business but not an interrogation. I also didn’t feed them canned answers. It’s almost more like they want your logic instead of the result. Eye contact, smile. Drink the waters. lol.
Cog Test Standard. Don’t forget to practice a few word problems, no paper… I think I missed them all. Haha.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 6 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Cage. Great services.
Any additional information you would like to add. Prepare for this to a level where you can go in with the mentality that you did everything you could… That helped me manage my stress.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
