Which Airline did you interview with? Fedex
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 4 weeks invite to interview
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? NA
What is your experience? 121 only
Total Flight Time 3,000-4,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience It was a wonderful experience. You can tell almost instantly that they are happy to have you there and are passionate about Fedex. The Day 1 cog test is handled by a single woman who wants nothing other than to see you succeed on the testing. If she could have it her way you’d show up in gym shorts and a t shirt. She wants you to be really comfortable taking the battery of tests (same as Delta). Do not wear a tie on Day 1. Two groups, morning and afternoon. You’ll either be testing or doing drug screening. Calls will go out 5-6pm if you are successful at Day 1 and details on Day 2. Day 2 is the SBI and HR panel. Again, everyone is extremely nice. I really enjoyed Day 2. Fedex provides lunch as well! I’m excited to be joining Team Purple!
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 6-12 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Not that I am aware of. I DID NOT have a personal endorsement which seems to be a major trigger. No internal recommendations.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No issues. You are given instructions on pre-employment paperwork and how to fill in each form. I did two folders. One with the copies of all my documents and the other with the paperwork. Do not bother to staple or paper clip forms together. The first they will do is take all that stuff off.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? Started off with the 15 day checklist. The reading assignments in there are VERY useful. The testing seemed very heavy on aerodynamics but can cover all topics. Then I completed the ground school and focused hard on the quizzes and flashcards. The questions on the tests are not the same wording as RST
Technical Test Questions Nothing stood out. The only question that stumped me was asking about Limiting Load Factor. I had never heard of that concept, more than likely are error on my part during studying.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? A question on load factor. My math questions were very simple descent calculations.
Cog Test The cog trainer is SOOOO beneficial. I did a test a day for about a week and then would go back and do one every few days leading up to the interview. Make sure to watch the Cog Webinar as it really helped improve my scores.
Cog Math Questions I have always sucked at math. The cog trainer math section always were my worst scores so I was nervous going into the test. The questions are MUCH easier in the actual cog evaluation. I was able to complete them relatively quickly.
HR Questions Tell me something about you thats not on your resume. TMAAT you had to use PIC authority. TMAAT you made a mistake while operating an aircraft (wrap up with what you learned and how you bettered yourself). WWYD if a mil FO keeps making the same mistake over and over. Why Fedex? If you could pick any aircraft what would you pick and why? A few other questions but I don’t remember. It was an enjoyable conservation. They do a great job at making you feel comfortable.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. I do not think it was that beneficial. The biggest seller for me was their prep for the Situational Based Interview. The interviewers know all about these prep companies and they just want to get to know whats in your heart. Canned answers won’t get passed these guys.
Any additional information you would like to add. The stress is always going to be there but the whole process was fun. Enjoy the opportunity and seeing the massive Fedex facility.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
