Which Airline did you interview with? FedEx
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 4 weeks between invite and interview
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? n/a
What is your experience? 121 only
Total Flight Time Greater
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience It was fantastic. Everyone makes you feel very welcome and they try to put you at ease and encourage you to relax. They also seem genuinely happy that you are there and want you to succeed.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Had within the last year received a few internal recs. That’s the only thing I can think of.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST
Technical Test Questions Very similar to RST. A few questions almost identical to RST and no subject matter surprises. Important to know the material and not just do the practice tests. Didn’t read any of the Aero. for Naval Av. but studied everything else.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Don’t remember
Cog Test Just like RST but easier. Shorter segments and lower tech, the actual test seemed more like an 80s arcade game. Had a bit of a rough time with the localizer and number recall section. The FedEx test was quite a bit slower in response than what I had practiced with RST and that messed up my flow. But that’s a minor issue.
Cog Math Questions Easier and you have more time to work each problem.
HR Questions A fair bit of time was spent just flushing out my resume. Some questions about courses of study and grades in college. Can a First Officer be a leader? How? Say you’re a Captain and you have a First Officer who’s having a hard time with the job, what do you do/say to help him? What if he consistently performs poorly? What is a weakness of yours? What would you like to improve about yourself professionally? A lot of questions about fatigue and tiredness, how do you recognize it? How do you define and mitigate fatigue? How do you adjust to night hub flying?, being on reserve at night? Long flights with only 2 pilots?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? EC. Absolutely. The biggest help is that it forces you to organize your thoughts and practice answering questions/talking out loud! That’s critical. By the same token you can live by the gouge and die by the gouge. Not to sound trite but still important to be you.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Started prep earlier. I did it 4 weeks prior and wish I’d started earlier by at least a few weeks. It just made for a busy 4 weeks!
