Which Airline did you interview with? Delta Air Lines
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability?
Did you receive a job offer? No 6, months re-invite, HR Failure
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? I think my answers to the WWYD questions came off as indecisive.
What is your experience? 121 and 135
Total Flight Time 3,000-4,000
Total Turbine PIC Time < 1,000
General Overview of Experience It was great to interview. I am disappointed in my performance of the interview and the results yet I am excited that I have 6 months to financially plan for my future class date (i.e. training housing and food, uniform costs, etc.). I am confidant I will get the position at my 6 month reinterview and look forward to the date of becoming a Delta Air Lines pilot.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal recommendations, job fairs, updated my application at the end of every trip for the past year, and networked with several employees of Delta Air Lines.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 3 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No. They asked questions on my history in college as well as work history.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? I used RST for the past month. About two weeks before the interview, I tried to play the games and review the notecards every day.
Technical Test Questions All of the applicants did not feel confidant after walking out of the technical portion of the interview. We all felt as if we failed. It is key to just let it be. If you test first, you have that portion out of the way. Take your lunch break and move into your HR interview with a CAPTAINS state of mind and thinking as well as your own confidence and you will be successful.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? There were a lot of questions I did not recognize from the flash cards on the exam. I can’t remember specifics but I used a general process of elimination to make my best guess to the question.
Cog Test They are the same games as you play on RST. If you practice and test your skills on the games presented on RST, you’ll succeed. When you are testing at your interview, there is the option to practice. DO IT! Practice more than once, even if it says “seems you understand the rules, do you want to begin testing?”. Practice. Practice. Practice. The Jet in the center game is slightly different then on RST. If you let the jet go 1/2 way from the center to one side, the jet will SPEED up towards the direction of full deflection. You can practice as many times as you want, so do it!
Cog Math Questions They were simpler mental formulas/calculations than presented on RST. I think i answered 4-5.
HR Questions You’re the captain. WWYD if your FO won’t wear his hat? You have a 3 day with him and he consistently doesn’t feel Delta enough to wear it every day.
You’re the captain. WWYD if there were 3 lights out on your instrument panel, last flight of the night, you’re flying into low IFR out station airport, you’re fully loaded and ready to depart, mx shows up. They say it’ll take 30-40 minutes at least to fix, they are really busy, if you take a delay it’ll be on you (the captain) and he wants to differ them?
WWYD if you are flying a B737, fully loaded ready to go but the 2 aft lav’s are broken? Flight from LAX to ATL (4 hours)? What about RDU to ATL (40 minutes)?
WWYD if you are the FO and the captain keeps incorrectly setting the HDG, ALT, and SPEED button when ATC gives you a new HDG, ALT, and SPEED assignment? You’re with him for 3 days, he keeps up this pattern, now what do you do?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 3 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast
Any additional information you would like to add. I took the testing first. After feeling like I failed the tech questions and felt as if I blew my chance, I went to get lunch and prepare for the HR portion. I wish I stopped thinking of the potential negative portion and stopped listening to the other applicants negative thinking of the testing and just cleared my mind to prepare for the HR. If I gave myself a good “You’ve got this” and put my captains hat “on”. I know I would have a conditional offer and be looking at my next and final move to Delta Air Lines.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I wish I knew you could have prepared for the interview BEFORE you had an interview date.
