General Overview of Experience As others have said before, the whole interview process was very professional and welcoming experience. It was really very impressive. The individuals in the pilot selection office know you’re stressed and they do everything they can to calm your nerves and make you feel welcome.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal recommendation
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None with logbooks. There was one yes/no question on the addendum section of my application that they had me switch when I went in for the HR portion of the interview, but it was very minor and did not cause any issues.
Technical Test Questions Very similar to what you see on RST. I was getting about 90-95% on average during my practice tests and felt very comfortable during the actual JKT. The math questions I got were very simple, I had about 3 of them.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? There was a question about how far out and how wide you’re protected by a VASI that I could not remember the answer to. I know I had seen it or something similar on RST but just forgot.
HR Questions Like everyone else in the pilot selection office, the team was very welcoming and professional. It’s not an intimidating environment. Just 4 people sitting around a small table having a conversation. Below are the broad questions asked I can remember, but there is more easy conversation in between.
-Tell us about yourself in about 5 minutes.
-Why did you choose the college you did?
-If you could go back and change anything in training what would it be?
-How will you deal with commuting to NYC?
-WWYD taxi to the runway, storm within 5 miles of the airport. other aircraft are taking off but it’s against your policy.
-How will you build a good working relationship with the FAs during a trip. What if some are on their phones during a briefing?
-WWYD coming in to land, windshear alert has been reported, 2 aircraft ahead have gone around but the airport is reporting light rain/winds, captain wants to continue.
-TMAAT when you had to make a difficult aviation decision.
Cog Test I felt good after the COG test. There is a video explaining the differences between the RST games and the actual COG test that I believe is very important to watch, but it is very hard to find the link on the RST website. If you have not watched it, you should. It will give a lot more context to your COG preparations and will tell you what to focus on and what to expect.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 6 weeks, but had another interview for a different internal position a few weeks prior to getting the invite, so I had some warm-up.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Raven Consulting, I would highly recommend them. From what I understand, ECIC is more overall HR prep time but in a group setting for most of that time. The Raven HR prep is less overall time but all one-on-one. I guess you have to decide which process you would prefer.
Any additional information you would like to add. Make an effort to get in contact with your interview group before hand, maybe even meet up. It helps a lot, even if it’s just to calm the nerves over dinner the night before the big day.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I should have devoted more of my prep time to the HR portion. I felt less prepared for the HR than I did for the tests just because I spent more time studying for the tests. In my opinion, the HR is the most important part of the interview, much more so than the tests. Feel absolutely ready for the HR portion.
