Which Airline did you interview with? FedEx
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 30 days
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? n/a
What is your experience? 121 only
Total Flight Time 4,000-5,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience It’s true what everyone says about it being self-induced stress. Everyone I met at the company was very warm and welcoming. They all want you to succeed. Remember that the entire two days is the interview. Even when you’re not in a testing room, people are paying attention to what you say and how you act. Be a team player from the beginning.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I had a fastpass at WAI in Orlando and had a great conversation with a line pilot. I believe this interaction as well as my volunteer work with ALPA helped me land an interview.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST ground school and test prep. I also read some of the Turbine Pilot Handbook and Naval Aviator. I probably would have been ok with just RST, but doing the extra reading helped reduce my stress about being adequately prepared.
Technical Test Questions None of the questions stuck out as being overly difficult. The concepts were all something I had covered in my RST prep. But often the questions were worded differently than the practice tests. There were 10 out of the 60 questions I was sure about. The rest I had to read carefully to decipher what concept they were testing, and then narrowed it down to two possible answers. I had enough time to go back and reread about 15 questions before the 60 minutes expired.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? I don’t recall.
Cog Test Much simpler than the RST cog trainer. Easiest part of day 1. This is the first test of the day, so it helped me relax and build my confidence.
Cog Math Questions Simpler than the RST trainer. If you’re comfortable with grocery store math, figuring out sale prices at a store, and calculating tip a restaurant you should do fine on this section.
HR Questions What are pros/cons of FedEx vs. your current job? Tell me about fatigue and how you would handle it. WWYD if your captain is consistently late to the van and this causes late pushbacks? WWYD if ATC placed you in a hold flying into a thunderstorm and you can’t get a word in to talk on frequency? Tell me about a setback you’ve had in your flying career.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 1 month
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast. ECIC and RST are a winning combination. I attended one in-person seminar and did one phone top-off. I knew in my head what I wanted to get across, but practicing it aloud with someone listening definitely helped me hone and polish my presentation.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
