General Overview of Experience Overall great experience. Showed at 6:45am for security check-in. Then proceeded over to the candidate waiting area where we were met by Dorothea. She led us back in groups to turn in the required documents (having them in order will make the process much easier). Afterwards, you’ll stow the rest of your stuff. Make sure your phone is off when you put it away (not simply silenced). I don’t know if that’s made the difference for anyone in the past, but it will be stressed. You won’t see your phone or smart watches again until you leave at the end of the day. A schedule will be posted with everyone’s MMPI-2 and panel interview times. I took my MMPI-2 at 8:00 and I didn’t have my panel interview until 12:30. All of the candidates, myself included, were visibly stressed, but Dorothea and the rest of the staff make every effort to put you at ease. Realize that the invitation to interview means they want to hire you. Prepare for the interview, but know that they want to meet the real you and not just hear a rehearsed version of your flying career. Following each block of panel interviews (there were 3 different groupings throughout the day, 22 of us total), CJOs will be handed out. Those who received a TBNT were called by name and escorted out quietly before the rest were presented with their CJOs. Following that, you’ll be regrouped for fingerprinting, drug testing, and the interview with the psychologist. The interview with the psychologist included TMAAT questions along with others related to your responses on the MMPI-2 (e.g. drug/alcohol use and issues, if any, they have caused). With my panel interview being at the end of the day, I didn’t leave until about 5:00pm, and I received the email confirming that I passed the rest of the interview at about 5:45pm. It can be a long, stressful day given what’s on the line, but they really do their best to keep you as relaxed as possible.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? <60 days
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Met with a Delta HR rep at TPNx on a Saturday, and I received the assessment invite that Monday.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 7 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No questions asked about either of the three. I assumed they would ask about the speeding tickets I’d received since the dates and locations were all estimated, but they never brought it up. I also was worried about my hours as a military pilot. I had a disparity between my logged hours and my FHR which I explained on a separate sheet. Never was asked about the discrepancy or how I arrived at my different totals.
Technical Test Questions None.
HR Questions Introduce yourself.
Why Delta?
Asked why I had a stage check failure in UPT.
Asked if I had ever been discouraged as a pilot.
What advice I’d give to someone aspiring to become a pilot.
TMAAT you experienced a break down in communication.
WWYD if you had an engine fire indication that went away when you pulled the power back.
WWYD if your FO refuses to wear his/her hat in public.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 weeks
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? RST’s prep was more akin to the real assessment, by far, than Cut-E.
Is there anything you wish you could have done differently to prepare you for this process? I would have started interview prep long before I had. Doing it early and often will only help calm your nerves come interview day.
