Total Flight Time 5,000-8,000

General Overview of Experience Regional FO, no PIC time just over 5k total time. 3 letters or recommendation (1 internal). App been in for years. Attended job fair two years ago
Spot on: no surprises, just like its been explained in every other Ride report. we had retired captain Clint instead of crabby since he was on vacation. We checked in and they brought is three at a time to collect our two stacks of papers. They hand you a water bottle and tell you Delta is trying to environmentally better so refill your bottle of water when your done. They had extra bottles but i think it behoves you to refil it. There is a baby monitor watching and listing while you are there so behave and watch your language.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I had an internal letter of recommendation about 9 months ago. I did an aero crew solutions airline app review which I think made a HUGE difference. I got the email invite two weeks later. “Don’t know if that was the reason”
I had a bunch of small mistakes and not every box filled in. They told use they have two of their pilots hand pick out the applications from airline apps so having a complete applications is critical. Doing the aero crew review I was able to go into the interview knowing that my app was completed and correct.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. Tabbed all important dates, typed up a flight summary sheet with important dates and printed my excel spreadsheet I had that had my airframe totals. I only have logbooks.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? I pushed my interview a month out due to prior obligations but I studied RST religiously every day. I first read all the tropical study guides then I took the test and read each set of flash card once. Once I had gone through everything I just focused on taking the JKT tests every day until my interview. As far as the math goes I was already familiar with all the math formulas since I had been practicing them prior to my interview invite for months since I had the gouge on them. I had ONE simple 3:1 alt math problem. Don’t focus on the math so much.
I read also the T34 and turbine PDF twice.
I also did every question and test Tuesday leading up to my interview.
After about three weeks I was comfortable on the JKT.
Technical Test Questions I had a lot of the recent questions being asked on the RST Facebook page. I also believe I lucked out with an easy test. I finished my JKT test in 40 min and hit submit.
I will add some advice I got from my teaches growing up. “If you guess an answer and change it after your 80-90% more likely to get it wrong if you go back and change it.” Go with your gut and move on. Make sure to hit submit prior to your time expiring.
I had the Papi question:
Dog leg left 7 miles out at night with three white and one red. What do you do?
Answer was the only one that had +/-10* left or right of course and 4nm of obstacle Clearence so descend but use caution until you’re within the protected area.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? I had a question that said you’re on the ILS and selected flaps down and all of a sudden you got a stall indication. Part of your recovery you retracting the flaps. What did this do to your lift and stall speed. Please forgive me as this threw me for a loop and don’t remember the answer choices.
Cog Test The new RST 2.1 is spot on minus all the hype about level 18 being harder. During my test the rule didn’t change that much. I had a FEW times were the rule stayed the same 4-5 times. I would say it was similar to the first cog test version 1.
My math section was hard. Had zero question I had seen before. Had three fraction question and for the sake of not running out of time I guessed probably 2 out of 4. I moved on and knocked out each test out of the park after that.
Cog Math Questions Sorry brain dump. I did give Tito one question right after my interviewed and I know it’s out there already.
HR Questions No app or logbook questions minus a question about a scholarship I got
-3-5 min intro
-Check ride failure explanation
-How have you gotten here so fast in your career
-Why do you think you’ll be a good fit for delta
-When you think of delta what do you think of
-Captain is high and fast and won’t make a fix, WWYD
-Captain is saying your slow using your check list and is getting frustrated WWYD
-Mechanical issues 45 min delay, captain wants you to make a PA saying its westher. (Clear in a million between your departure and destination) WWYDA lot more question then expected but it was very conversational and I felt good about it. They told me to do good on my test. I took that as I passed the HR
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? FAPA and EC. I read all the HR discussions on RST and practiced everyday. Please practice your HR responses as this is the MOST failed part of the interview.
I did two FAPA Skype calls, 2 EC webinars and 1 phone top off. I used them as opportunities to practice talking in front of people I didn’t know. They did not provide me with any answers. You can find all the answer to the harder questions on the RST Facebook page.
Any additional information you would like to add. Relax and be confident. Make sure to eat lunch during your break.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Nothing
