General Overview of Experience Like everyone said, they seem to want you there and to succeed. At the end of the day as the group of us were waiting for an answer I told myself that no matter what result I get, I did the best I could and was happy with the way I performed. I took the time to study more than RST recommended and it seemed to pay off well.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? 18 months as Captain at Endeavor/ Delta Guaranteed Interview program
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 7 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No. I even asked what they preferred, paper or electronic/ they said no preference. I even gave a closing statement apologizing for how my first logbook looked and that I tried my best to improve as the time went on. I brought both paper and electronic logbook tabbed out and it has seemed to done the trick.
Technical Test Questions Many of the questions were on there straight from Gold Standard powerpoint. You can easily eliminate two and the other two seem both correct. These are the notes I took/ don’t recall exact wording of the questions but you get the idea
-right tire blown/ veer right/left and long/short landing roll to stop
-flying inbound on 090 radial/ need to fly 060 outbound… some options given (saw this on gold standard)
-you are flying ILS with ALSF-1 lighting… you hit DH, when are you able to descend below DH
-when are you considered to be on the approach
-3 white 1 red PAPI… what do you get on glideslope as you’re within 30 degrees and 18 miles
-specific note on Precision approach/ note 1 next to 1200 rvr… note stated can go do 1000 rvr if you have certain equipment
-Airplane is IFR equipped and has GPS/ can you do RNAV departures
-lost communication… what do you do as you’re being vectored
Making a list of the ones you knew 100% and ones you were not sure off helped/ if you finish early go back and recheck your work.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Right tire blown/ veer right or left and longer or shorter landing roll. Saw the question before and did the research to find best answer… still dont know that 100% the question doesn’t have enough info to come up with best answer
HR Questions The questions were tailored to my flying experience/ application
-they liked “2 week notice” on date of availability
-tell us about yourself in 3 to 4 to 5 minutes/ they didn’t look at their watches timing me so that made me at ease. I was able to include why Delta as the closing statement so I wasn’t asked that again
-What makes a good FO
-What makes a good training program
-wwyd- Flying international/ you divert/ no customs and lavs are full…
-wwyd- can’t get along with the captain
-wwyd- moderate turbulence at the destination airport. Part of my answer was to make an announcement/ they asked me what it would sound like
-if you had to do it all over again/ the road to becoming an airline pilot/ what would I do different
-why am I a pilot mentor at my company
-TMAAT when I was challenged as the Captain
-why did I go elsewhere for CFI/CFII training and not my college as where I got rest of my ratings
Cog Test Practice the games provided in RST and you will do fine. Be careful when going between practice and the real test… I thought I was taking the practice test before the real one. Then I read “your score is being submitted” that is when I realized my mistake
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 2 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? pilotinterviewconsulants/ Captain from Delta runs it
two different books helped
-How to Land a Top Paying Airline Job: The Proven System for Beating the Odds and Landing Pilot Jobs at the World’s Best Airlines by Rick Hogan
-Checklist for Success: A Pilot’s Guide to the Successful Airline Interview (Professional Aviation series) by Cheryl Cage
Both good reads
Any additional information you would like to add. Read every chapter of AIM & EEFPP (1 chapter a day) till I felt comfortable with the information. Took the advice from Tito to write down any questions I could get and kept on rereading it. I went over and beyond to rewrite most of the flashcards too as I had plenty of time. I was anticipating the interview and went thru a phase a year out before getting burned out. 2 months of few hours a day was enough for me to feel comfortable at the interview.
You are being watched from the second you step foot on campus. There are few baby monitors inside the building so be on your best behavior.
Don’t do anything to stand out of the group. Be friendly towards everyone and lastly BE YOURSELF.
As far as the psychological testing/ don’t take too much time to answer/ go with your gut feeling. I was sent to the PARB and had to wait over a month for the answer. It is hard to say what triggered it.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No
