Which Airline did you interview with? Delta Air Lines
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability?
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process?
What is your experience? 121 and 135
Total Flight Time 5,000-8,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience Many emotions went through me throughout the entire interview process. I do believe they truly want you there and try and put you at ease as soon as all of your paperwork is turned in. RELAX AND BE CONFIDENT were there main words and I consistently echoed those throughout the day in my head. It is a well oiled machine there and they have it down to an exact science. Facilities are nice also.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I firmly believe that being awarded Line Check Airman and joining my Homeowners Association as a Board Member tremendously helped my chances. Also having two friends complete the recommendation that they send directly to the pilot selection committee and not just the generic recommendations on airline apps.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? NOTHING AT ALL!!! Make sure these are up to par. This is one last thing you’ll have to worry about. Nothing was ever said to me about paperwork or any of my logbooks or flight hours. I brought both originals and my entire printed off electronic one also. Everything was tabbed for their ease. Also I had two basic filing blue folders that I had my sets in. PLAIN AND SIMPLE IS PERFECT!!! Do not waste any precious study time on the folders.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST website and Facebook. Everything explained for pilots was my main resource. And yes I read all the important parts of the AIM. Also a big resource is the power of GOOGLE and YOUTUBE for you visual learners out there, because I definitely am. Gotta love the old school king videos on youtube also.
Technical Test Questions Honestly can’t remember a lot of these. Very basic descent questions and your doing 142 knots with a 20 knot headwind, what should your VSI read. Answer is 600fpm. Easy 3 to 1 descent question. Some question on INS system and the answer is MAP.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Honestly cannot remember many. A complete blur at times. Many of us came out of there and were pretty sure we had failed.
Cog Test Super easy. Do some of the tests on RST and quit studying it. Seriously a breeze. Focus all of your time on the JKT and Interview.
Cog Math Questions Plain and simple super hard. I did not have any of the easy ones that are on the Facebook site. This was the part that I had thought I had failed on. Maybe got 1 right and completely guessed on the rest. Tough questions and not easy questions that required easy calculating and simple percent answers. Some people had easy ones though. Its like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get.
HR Questions This is where I had an easy part of my day. Softball questions in my opinion.
WWYD two lavs in the back are broken and one working up front. Discuss what you would do.
Mid-Air and receive a message from dispatch, credible threat of a bomb on board, WWYD?
When did you display good customer service?
When did you think the outcome of a flight or a decision could have been in jeopardy? And yes I slammed a dasani bottle of water before I answered this one.
Discuss your check ride failure.
Why did you leave the regional you were working at before current job?
How would you feel about commuting to the Northeast?
Discuss a tough decision you had to make and its outcome?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 5 weeks is plenty of time.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. Helped me in developing an understanding of the questions being asked and how to articulate my answers. Did think the price of their service was a little steep though.
Any additional information you would like to add. RELAX AND BE CONFIDENT. Sit up straight and own your interview like a boss!!! Believe in yourself and your abilities, and the job is yours!!
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Yes. Maybe not have spent that much more time on the COG trainer after I had mastered the 2.0 version on the RST site. Real one super easy.
