General Overview of Experience Most all the other trip reports say the same thing. Everyone there is nice and helpful. They do try to make you feel at ease. However, it’s still obviously a super stressful day. The most stress I experienced was just the waiting around between events. They run a very efficient process there and the downtime is just a byproduct of having more interviewees than interviewers.
My HR panel was very friendly and the interview itself was very conversational. No good cop/bad cop at all. They genuinely seemed interested in my background and getting to know me. This was the most pleasant part of the entire process.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 1-6 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Had a buddy do the internal email push. Got the email invite 4 days later.
How many internal recs did you have? 5+
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? Air Force here. I brought original Big Green Folder + FEF + civilian logbook. I included cleaned up copies of each, as well as a summary sheet I put on the top and my FHR from the HARM. Zero questions were asked about logbooks.
Technical Test Questions RST more than prepares you for the JKT. There were zero questions that had concepts the study material didn’t cover. Do the 15 day program, do the ground schools, do all the test simulators and flash cards. Get to where you are scoring 80%+ on the testing simulator and I think that is plenty of prep. It does take WAY LONGER than 15 days. I had 33 days and I felt rushed at times, but got it all done with a few days off over the holidays and a few to spare at the end to refresh topics I was weak on.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? One question I blanked on (it is covered in RST) was about how many miles of course you are when they give you a number of degrees off on the LOC and distance from the field. i.e. 1 degree off, 6NM from the field. I chose 0.1NM since that seemed to make sense with the 60:1 rule. I was probably way overthinking it.
HR Questions – 3-5 minute intro starting after high school.
– TMAAT you disagreed with a superior.
– WWYD if you were the CA and the FO wasn’t wearing his hat/uniform was dirty/etc?
– WWYD if you were a new CA and the FO was doing all of your flows/tasks for you, even after you ask him to stop
– Why delta?
– TMAAT a flight that was very stressful and rewarding at the same time.
– TMAAT you had a conflict in the A/C.
– WWYD if you got assigned NYC and had to deal with commuting?
– WWYD if you were at cruise and you had a fire light that extinguished when you pulled back the throttle?
Cog Test The Brain Games on RST are more than enough to prepare you. Most important thing you can do here is WATCH THE VIDEO on the site. It explains the Brain Games and some of the actual COG games way better than the instructions do. The video is hard to find. Here is the link: https://readysettakeoff.com/jetbrain-game-training/
I watched the video, ran through the whole set of games a few times. Then a few days before the interview ran through it one more time. This was plenty of prep for it.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? I did one webinar right after I submitted my app, but didn’t really start getting into it until I got the invite. So about one month of consistent prep work.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast. As others have said, it helped me polish some stories and sort out a smoother way to wrap them up. I did two webinars, one rapid fire, and the top-ff. Doing the webinars, rapid fire and the top-off was really a confidence booster going into the interview. That alone makes it worth it.
Any additional information you would like to add. I did the full gamut of prep services. App review, HR prep and RST. Do I think someone could get hired without them? Yes. Do I think it’s worth risking NOT getting the CJO to save a few hundred dollars? Absolutely not. Use the services, and let them help you increase your chances of landing a multi-million dollar career. They are totally worth it.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Prior to the interview I was wishing I had more time to prepare for the JKT. Afterward, I realized that I had plenty of prep time. Just put the work in and follow the RST program and you will be successful.
