Which Airline did you interview with? Delta Air Lines
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability?
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? NA
What is your experience? Military and 121
Total Flight Time 5,000-8,000
Total Turbine PIC Time < 1,000
General Overview of Experience Much like what has already been said. Very nice people, efficient process, very heartbreaking to see your peers not make it. 10/16 we had a tough day. Leave your phones at the hotel on day one. It ain’t worth it. Bring it and take your photo on day 2. Also there’s a pee test at the end of day 1. Save some PSI.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal rec from a recently hired friend.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No. I had it reviewed twice professionally and by helpful friends. Printed my electronic logbook at FedEx Office on some slick looking green paper. Tabbed check rides. No questions on logbooks. Also no questions on reliability. We all initialed where it says “two weeks notice” on our applications. I’m guessing their patience is about tapped out with people screwing with their class dates.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? Read ANA, EEPP, RST getting started checklist, RST Study Guides and practice tests, Mental Math for Pilots, Turbine Pilot’s Flight Manual. I am grateful I read ANA and I truly learned a lot, but you might be better off spending your time in the others. Again, concepts are crucial.
Technical Test Questions Your landing distance is increased by ground effect mostly due to a reduction in downwash or induced drag.
You are 103 miles from the airport at 31000. You want to maintain a 3 degree glideslope. When do you start down?
You are northwest of the VOR. You are told to hold on the 270 radial left turns. Entry?
Lateral stability occurs around which axis.
A blown tire does what to landing distance.
Purpose of a hydraulic accumulator.
Forward CG does what to stall speed.
What does dihedral do to lateral stability.
At 7000 on final in SLC, field is 5,200′. When do you descend for 3 degree slope.
You are flying along and the temp increases. What happens to TAS and true altitude.
Landing in LGA vs. landing in SLC. Higher or lower VVI.I used Tito’s 15 day study plan. Back it up by reading Everything Explained for the Professional Pilot, Mental Math for Pilots, and relevant parts of Turbine Pilot’s Flight Manual. Do that and you’ll likely pass.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Can’t remember any real brain busters. Some of the wording is weird, but use the process of elimination and you’ll be fine.
Cog Test I was scoring mid 700’s on the RST website. If you can do this you’ll ace the COG. The actual localizer test is much slower and easier. I had some trouble with clicking “center” too soon on the test where you try and keep the line out of the red, but other than that it was pretty easy thanks to Tito.
Cog Math Questions I got the chocolate bars in a box question, a train leaves a station with 3 fifteen minute breaks arrives when, a time question, and a couple others. If you can do RST math trainer questions you’ll smoke it.
HR Questions Tell me about yourself- there was a “bad cop” at the table. He interrupted me several times when I was trying to tell my life story and a couple more times later on. Don’t let them rattle you. This is an annunciator “press to test” situation. Don’t show the slightest bit of annoyance. If you try and BS them expect to be called out immediately. Trust me.
You are cleared for the visual at a towered airport without radar. You think the captain is lined up on the wrong airport.
You are descending into a mountainous airport at night on a visual. There is a layer of clouds between you and the airport. What do you do? (This one may have been sparked by my KASE experience).
Narita natural disaster divert question.
No TMAAT questions.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 3 weeks.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Aero Crew Solutions and friends who’ve been through. Absolutely helped, although be prepared for your game plan to go out the window. Just make sure you have a format. Arnie made it clear that the key to success in the HR is to connect with the team and let them know who you are. NO CANNED ANSWERS. I felt like I certainly could have answered the WWYD questions better, but I went heavy on core values, specifically servant leadership. I backed it up with examples. This seems to have gotten me through. I know you all get sick of hearing this, but you simply must relax and be yourself.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Negative Ghost Rider. I had enough penguins on the iceberg.
