How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? Invite to interview: 4 weeks Listed availability: 2 weeks notice
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 2,000-3,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience Outstanding. The Delta Pilot selection department is comprised of world class good people who went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. They treated me with respect and made me genuinely feel like they wanted me on their team. All stress in the process was self-imposed and inevitable given the circumstances.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 6-12 months
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? I honestly don’t know. I had 4 different Delta pilots ping the internal recommendation email roughly every 45 days from app submission to interview invite. I received the invite to interview 30 days after the last submission so it’s possible that was the trigger, but I’ll never know.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? None. I gave them a very simple printed explanation sheet of how I calculated my hours and they didn’t question me on any of it.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST
Technical Test Questions Wide range of concepts covered almost entirely by RST, plus a couple that were not. As stated in the material, you need to understand the concepts. You won’t get by on answer recognition like you can if you’ve done any Sheppard Air courses. They’re just not word for word or in some cases even similar to your study. The concepts are 99% there though.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? You’re on the first leg of a MEM-DEN-OAK trip and have a “pack fault”. How will this affect your DEN-OAK leg? Various choices that had to do with max t/o gross weight, max cruise altitude, etc. I saw nothing on RST that would teach you this and I have no idea what the answer is or if I got it right/wrong. I’ve never flown an aircraft that has “packs”. Good luck.
Cog Test Easy. RST is outstanding training for it. All the tests are significantly slower on the actual test and the stylus is easier to use than the track pad I used on a Macbook.
Cog Math Questions RST ones are tougher but I’m still terrible at these. Didn’t feel good about this part…until I got the CJO and realized it was good enough.
HR Questions I interviewed with three outstanding, incredibly nice people. They went well out of their way to make me feel comfortable. 45 min after it started it was over and I couldn’t believe that was it.
-Intro starting from college
-Most rewarding aspect of being a flight examiner?
-Why do you want to work here?
-What’s the most important job at Delta?
-TMAAT the outcome of an airborne decision was uncertain
-WWYD: CA is being a jerk to the FAs
-WWYD: Some PAX are nervous about the dress/appearance of another PAX (culturally speaking)
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? Slowly worked on ECIC content starting 6 months prior to interview. Attended a seminar in person 3 months prior. Really hit the prep when I got the interview invite 30 days out.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. I would consider it a requirement if you’ve never been in the airline industry. It was essential to my success without a doubt.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
