Which Airline did you interview with? Delta
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? 2 week availability. 4 weeks invite to interview.
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/A
What is your experience? Military
Total Flight Time 2,000-3,000
Total Turbine PIC Time >2,000
General Overview of Experience Overall a very good experience. RST prepared me well for all aspects. The meet-up the night prior was a great way to get to know the other interviewees and I think it is key to overall success. Flew into Atlanta around 2:30 on Wednesday. Plenty of time to settle in to the Airport Hilton (I recommend, at the Delta rate at least). Hilton shuttle driver was very knowledgable about the whole system (knew right away that I was there for an interview probably based on my suit). Gave me the gouge on where to meet the shuttle the next morning (because rain was forecast) and gave me a drive-by of where it would drop us off at the Delta gate. Capt Holmes and his staff are great. He knows the gouge is out and kind of enjoys laughing about it. He seems like he genuinely wants you to succeed.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 6-12 months
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Attended the October pilot expo but was told to expect a December interview invite based on my May availability. Got a little discouraged when that didn’t happen. Had one “internal” rec about 4 months ago and a couple of other Delta recs (though not routed directly to the hiring team) and just kept my app updated monthly.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No. Logbooks were not exactly “pristine” in appearance. Definitely some white-out in there and some corrections. Never got a question about them though. Checked and Set (Charlie Venema) did my app review long ago and I thought it was well worth it. No fancy paperwork prep. I just brought what they asked for in an organized manner.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? Started browsing through EEPP about a year ago along with some of the Aero for Naval Aviators book but lost interest as the months went by with no invite. After the invite I did the 15 day program religiously along with the ground school and then reviewed my notes up until the interview date. Purely RST COG Trainer for COG.
Technical Test Questions Kind of a blur already, but generally all concepts were familiar but some answers seemed to be worded poorly. Easy to eliminate two, but the last two choices were closer than I liked on quite a few. Finished in about 45 minutes and then took 5 more to go back through my “flagged” questions. One question was unfamiliar regarding the difference between “RNP” and “ANP”. Another regarding Transition Altitude and Transition Level with respect to setting QNH and QNE. Only one or two “math” questions–fairly easy (descent / 3:1 rule, etc).
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? See above.
Cog Test First test in the afternoon. My mind took a while to get going, and the interface / format differences didn’t help that. Eventually I got into a groove and things started clicking better. All that to say–I felt like I was tired and much slower than I had been on the trainer (highest score for me was 775 / 94) and I still apparently passed.
Cog Math Questions All of them were VERY close to the 30 question test bank RST file. Cog Math was one of the first tests I had and I remember having a hard time remembering “2 cans of peaches and 3 apples, or 3 peaches 2 apples?” and the mental math took longer for me so apparently you have more time for each question on the actual COG.
HR Questions 1000. Very relaxed. Almost enjoyable. General questions about my career. Why should Delta hire you? What do you do if the lead FA comes to you and says a business class passenger has too many carry-ons and refuses to check one? What do you do if the CA continues to fly approaches hi and fast, but just within tolerances, and says it is to save time and money for the company?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? I did ECIC about 2 years ago! Top off prior to the October recruiting event. Read lots of TRs. Lost lots of sleep.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? ECIC. Very good.
Any additional information you would like to add. Thank you, RST and Tito! This is an invaluable resource.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? No.
