Which Airline did you interview with? FedEx
How many days between invite, interview, and listed availability? ~30 days between invite and interview
Did you receive a job offer? Yes
If you did not receive the CJO why do you think you weren’t chosen to continue in the process? N/a
What is your experience? Military and 121
Total Flight Time 2,000-3,000
Total Turbine PIC Time 1,000-2,000
General Overview of Experience Overall it was a stressful (given) but great experience. FedEx is awesome at putting you at ease. They want to hire you, prepare as hard as you can so you don’t give them a reason not to hire you.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Updated my application once a month. HR specifically said to tell our friends to update our app once a week because they are reviewing them for an invitation weekly on Thursdays)
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 4 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? No
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? I was mostly worried about the JKT portion of the interview. I used the “Getting Started Checklist” schedule to prepare for the JKT portion only. I spent ~4-6 hours a day reading the study guides in the resource library and took at least 1 practice test a day. I am a visual learner and a business major, therefore, I ended up searching YouTube for videos on topics I didn’t understand. Looking back, I wouldn’t have taken so many practice tests and would’ve spent more time using the flash cards. The JKT questions are NOT verbatim, however, if you understand the concepts you will have no problem answering the questions.
The COG section is spot on. I only practiced the tests a few times because I felt I wasn’t going to master them in the allotted time that I had to prepare. I felt my time would’ve been better spent preparing in other areas. I felt comfortable that if I understood the instructions for each section of the test and had a strategy or game plan I would pass them without a problem. The COG test is much easier than the practice tests because they aren’t as long.
Technical Test Questions Not verbatim but if you understand concepts, you are golden. You only have 60 minutes to answer 60 questions so if you are unsure about a question, guess, write the question number down and come back to it later.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? Lots of aero questions and L/D max cause and effect questions.
Cog Test The tests that combine 2 tests/tasks are the most difficult.
Cog Math Questions Practice, practice, practice
HR Questions Tell us something about yourself that’s not on your resume, Why FedEx? A lot of WWYD questions and only 2 TMAAT (had to make a decision with incomplete info & a time my leadership came into question). They want specific information so even on the WWYD questions I told specific stories about when I had to do XYZ. They seemed to like that, because according to some other people in my interview group, if you aren’t answering the questions how they like, they will continue to ask follow up questions until they get the information they are looking for. Bottom line, be yourself and don’t give canned answers.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? I used Emerald Coast 2 years ago. I did a top off a week prior. I wouldn’t recommend this strategy for everyone. I have a lot of interview experience and felt comfortable enough to focus on other areas.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast – yes!
Signup as soon as possible so they can help you uncover what your weak areas are and give you time to work on them. Also, it will help you know how to attack the SBI (8 minute Emergency Procedure). Practice a few of these on your own or with friends. Don’t focus on a “right answer”, (they’re all terrible) focus on good CRM. Then, make your money in the debrief.
Any additional information you would like to add. Start early if you can because it will make the process a lot less stressful. Do an honest self-assessment to know what your weaknesses are and divide your time up appropriately.
Is their anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? Started earlier, focused more on flash cards rather than practice tests.
