General Overview of Experience Overall just a very professional process. The interview team does everything they can to keep you relaxed. I certainly got the feel that they truly wanted to hire all of us.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? No
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Internal rec triggered app review. LCA was the biggest change from a previous internal submission.
How many internal recs did you have? 1-2
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 6 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? There is a question concerning criminal history which specifically says “do not list arrests that did NOT result in a conviction.” During the app review, I was asked if there was anything missing from that section “including any arrest, or any conviction that has since been expunged.” That led to a discussion about how I was not trying to be deceptive, but only following directions. A short explanation about what happened followed, which I was certain would cost me the job. Long story short…BE HONEST.
Technical Test Questions Most of the concepts were covered. Several questions/answered were worded strangely, but just read through them carefully and you can generally arrive at the most correct answer.
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? “Pitot heat fails descending into icing conditions.” Possible answers were “unreliable airspeed” and “airspeed reads 0”. This falls into the “which is more correct?” category, since it does not specify where the blockage occurs.
HR Questions Nothing too tricky here. Several questions from the app about work/education history. Very conversational during this, so easy to stay relaxed. More structured TMAAT/WWYD questions, but this is really just their chance to see how you have handled situations in the past, or how you might handle a situation in the future. I think the general theme here is make an educated decision that will not jeopardize safety, or diminish the brand, and stick to it. They will occasionally try to get you going down a different road.
Cog Test Practice the brain games and you’ll be fine. The actual COG Test was very simple after all the practice here.
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 4-5 weeks.
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast. Overall the audio and video files helped me open my mind to different ways of thinking about the answers to some of the questions. I was unable to attend a webinar, which I would have liked to do to gain more practice with WWYD scenarios.
Any additional information you would like to add.
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process?
