Total Turbine PIC Time
TPIC 121 hours 500-1000
TPIC Military hours 0
TPIC 91/135 1000-2000
General Overview of Experience Overall quite welcoming. Barry does a great job at putting the group at ease. Lots of waiting, but socializing with the group helps the time go by. Lots of great guys/gals in my group and the majority of us invited for day 1 got the CJO.
How long did you have your application in before you received an invite? 12 months +
Did you attend a job fair? Yes
Did you do anything special that triggered the interview invitation? Updated my education info on my application. Also my company announced a preferential interview program with Delta 2 weeks before I got the invite.
How many internal recs did you have? 3-4
How long was it from the time of your invite to the actual interview? 8 weeks
Did you have any issues with logbooks, application or paperwork? Since my ATP certificate is only for my Multi-engine certificate, I hadn’t checked the Single-engine land checkbox. They had me add check this in my interview. Besides that, no problems.
How did you prepare for the JKT/COG portion of the interview? RST guide. There were lots of aerodynamic questions, and a few systems questions.
Technical Test Questions None really stood out to me
What was the hardest technical question or content you experienced during the job knowledge test? A couple random regulatory questions that I couldn’t recall. One of them was “how far off-shore can you fly before you need lifevests?”
Cog Test
Cog Math Questions
HR Questions Tell us about yourself and why you want to work for Delta in 2 minutes (not the 5 minute version I had rehearsed).
Why did you pick the college you went to?
Tell us about your checkride failures (I had 2)
Who is a pilot you view as a role model and why?
How long prior to the interview did you prepare for the HR portion of the interview? 1.5 months
Which HR Prep service did you use and did it help? Emerald Coast. It helped me feel more confident, and reinforced ideas that I already had about interviewing.
Any additional information you would like to add. I was quite nervous about the HR interview, but I made sure to be myself and I think the interviewers saw that. Using interview prep should be taken with a grain of salt. Still be yourself, but make sure to be the most polished version of yourself. Barry said that one of the top reasons why they reject people in the interview is because the interview panel comes back and says “we met RST or Emerald Coast, but we didn’t feel like we met the guy/gal sitting across the table from us.”
Also, my HR panel had a total of 4 interviewers (1 HR, 1 current captain, 1 retired captain, and 1 pilot being trained who didn’t ask any questions, but took notes). One of the other groups the day I interviewed had 5 interviewers on their panel (1 HR, 1 current captain, 1 retired captain, and 2 pilots being trained).
Is there anything you wish you could have done different to prepare you for this process? I would have prepped more for the COG test so I would have felt more confident on it.
